My freshmen year, I was able to participate in the NICU reunion that Mercy Hospital held for the kids that graduated from the NICU and their parents. I was put in charge of the waterslides, and I had to make sure that one kid went at a time. At one point during the day, I was allowed to take a break, which was when I went to the petting zoo and fell in love with every animal and the kids playing with them. It was so cute to see the baby pigs, chicks, puppies, and even goats, and it was cute to see how the kids were so gentle with them.
Throughout the event, a slidehow was playing of the kids when they were in the NICU, and it was really nice to see how far the kids have come since then. You wouldn't imagine that babies that small and frail can survive, but thanks to the NICU, they did.
My senior year, my partner and I were lucky enough to win first place for the HOSA competition in the CPR/First Aid event. This qualified us for states, which took place in Orlando. I knew going into states that it was going to be a lot of fun, because a bunch of my best friends were also competing. But I was not expecting it to be the most fun event I have done this year. It was filled with events and opportunities for us, like the career expo and the senior networking. My partner and I competed the night we got there, and unfortunately did not move on to the skills assessment.
However, we were able to do every single water slide as well as the lazy river, and the opening and closing ceremonies were also so much fun. The best part though, was watching Fiorella win first place for Dental Terminology. I have never screamed so loud in my life because I was so proud of her.
