Volunteering with our program is an awesome opportunity for any students/adults who need community service hours or are planning to pursue a career in education or just simply enjoy working with people with special needs. We have a wide range of volunteer needs, but here are a few quick examples:
1) volunteers to get in a shallow swimming pool at the Hanover Y to encourage our athletes to get their faces wet, kick their feet holding on to a pool noodle, toss a beach ball, etc.
2) volunteers to be a "golf buddy" at South Hills with our athletes who are capable of playing 9 holes (volunteers golf for free!) or hang out at the putting green or driving range with some of our lower skilled athletes and help them learn some basic golf skills
3) volunteers to float in a kayak at Codoris to help mark the "boundaries" for our athletes as they learn basic kayaking skills
4) volunteers to time the running events or measure the throwing events for our track athletes
The list goes on and on for all the sports that we offer. Our sports run for various "seasons" throughout the year, so the time commitment could range from a few months to year-round if you choose. We'll take whatever we can get! There is a process that volunteers need to go through with background checks, etc. but we'll guide you through the process and it's 100% free.
