Soohwan Received his B.S. and M.S. in School of Life Science at Korea University with the advice of Prof. Se-ho Park. There, He studied the character and identity of CD8 positive cytotoxic T cells in various autoimmune diseases by using animal models. Then he investigated Autophagy and Herpes viral life cycle as a research fellow under the supervision of Dr. Chengyu Liang and Dr. Jae U Jung at the University of Southern California.
As a Ph.D. student at University of California San Diego, Soohwan had been involved in many projects about enhancer transcription and its function on target gene expression with the mentorship of Dr. Rosenfeld. His research was continued with the prestigious support of T32 and K01 during his Postdoctoral studies.
Soohwan led a project which has shown unrecognized “Enhancer Release and Retargeting” (ERR) mechanism as a new paradigm to explain how non-coding genetic defects of gene promoters can unexpectedly activate nearby disease-causing genes in the same loop domain in response to various hormonal stimulation. During the projects, he obtained expertise on various NGS methods and computational approaches as a new viewpoint of his research.
Now he is extending his Research to RNA as a therapeutic target & platform, NGS technologies for transcriptome assay, in addition to follow-up studies of ERR mechanism.
