Listen to the Sons of Technology Podcast!
Hacking the apps is a session in which we turn the use of particular apps on its head and make them bend to our will. We will open you up to possibilities these apps offer that even their creators didn't think of.
The Template gallery New Sites feature we have all been waiting for is... not yet here, but follow these instructions to create a workaround to allow your site to create its own New Google Sites Template Folder. Make sure you watch all the way to the end to see how all you hard work can be for not if you make this one little mistake.
This video willl show you how to hack Google sites to allow you to change the fonbt of your text into any font Google has available. Using the embed option in Google Sites and a simple "html" code we can add new fots and effects to any text on our Google site pages. Here is a quick copy and paste sheet whcih wil allwo you to simplify the process: bit.ly/GSiteFonts
Remind is a great messaging service to keep parents and students informed, but it can also be used to easily update your website. Just use the Remind widget with the "wix" embed option on your Google site.
Use Google slides to create a stop motion animation project. Make sure you use the publish to web trick, select "change slides every 1 second" which is 1000 ms, and change that number to 100. This will auto play your animation at the correct speed.
You do not need a complete slide deck to use closed captioning, just have a topic slide and go!
Using simple clay and the pause button on the Flipgrid Camera, you can easily have students make claymation stop motion videos.
Upload screencastify videos from Flipgrid
Have students record screencasts from Screencastify then upload them to flipgrid.
Try this out by adding to our community grid HERE
Jamboard + Screencastify + Flipgrid

Add Closed Captioning to Peardeck Sessions
Yes you CAN use the Google Slides Closed Captioning Service in your Peardeck presentations... as long as you click the option right away.
Hack Hint: You must have the Peardeck Power-up Chrome Extension installed and enabled in order to use this hack.
Create Peardeck EdVenture Sessions
See how you can create EdVenture choices within a Peardeck lesson for student choice or for a deeper dive into topic understanding.
This can also be done with Nearpod, you just need a Published Google slide with Hyperlinks to the EdVentures.
Create a Generic "On the Fly" Sessions in Nearpod
Dont have a whole Nearpod presentation, but you still want to be able to poll your class or ask questions in the Moment? Then create your very own "On the Fly" Nearpod session.
This can also be done with Peardeck!

Allow a whole class to contribute questions and answers to a quiz in seconds.
UPDATE: Quizizz now only accepts a .xls file for the spreadsheet, not .csv Because of this, please make sure when you download the spreadsheet from google sheets choose the "Microsoft Excel" option.

Insert Learning: Assess on any web-page
Use the stickynote tool from the insert learning extension to embed objects and activities from other websites. My favorite are flipgrid and pHet.
Create Learning Artifacts from the Web
Use the extensions listed on to the right to annotate, leave sticky notes, and highlight right on the web. Also learn how to easily take screenshots, record quick 30 sec reflections, and remove all adds and nonsense from your reading.
Hack the Web Article with EDJI
With help from Mercury Reader, we can grab the text from any online article and add it to an EDJI lesson. This creates an interactive annotation experience to allow student to collaborate and see each others thoughts on the article.
Use the same lesson for each class and have more perspectives on the article be seen.
Share that lesson with another teacher to see all other annotations.
Add emojis to Google Classroom Topics to liven up your class or to incorporate iconography for our younger students to better identify different topics.
Use the Talk and Comment Extension to add audio instructions to your Google Classroom posts.
One note, this extension can slow down your browsing experience, so please disable it when you are not using it.
By posting your Daily Agenda to your Google Classroom, you not only can keep students accountable by marking it as done after reading it, the post also posts to your class calendar, which you can embed on your Google Site.
Rocketbook has so many great uses. I wanted to explode those uses across my class so I made the RocketWindow, a rocket book frame blown up to a 30x24 foam board with a window cut out. This lets you place it over any whiteboard work.
Check out also my rocket pages hack. See all the templates below.
