The Sonoma State History Journal is the history department's student academic journal, produced by Sonoma State students since 1995. The journal provides a one-of-a-kind professional development opportunity for graduate and undergraduate students in the history department. Throughout the year, editors solicit, edit, and publish a journal composed entirely of original research and creative writing.
Every year, our publication serves as a platform for Sonoma State students majoring in history, anthropology, archaeology, political science, and other related subjects to demonstrate their professionalism and expertise.
The editors invite the student body to submit work of any genre or style that includes a historical component. Now in its twenty-ninth year, the Journal seeks a wide variety of submissions, including:
Papers (class assigned)
Poetry
Photo Essays / Photography
Book Reviews (750-1000 words)
Film Reviews (750 words)
Artwork
If you are interested in submitting your work, please complete our online form or send your submissions to: sonomahistoryjournal@gmail.com
The editorial team meets as a class to compile, edit, and publish the journal. The group works together to cover all aspects of scholarly journal publication, including management, editing, setting up and implementing an anonymous review system, selection of manuscripts, layout, budgeting, production, sales, and distribution. The final result is an academic journal authored and edited by the students themselves, for the purpose of furthering knowledge and appreciation of history.
