Frequently Asked Questions
Why won't my phones connect to each other?
Make sure all devices are on the same Wi-Fi network. SonicSwarm uses your local network to discover and sync nearby phones — it won't work across different networks or over cellular data. Also check that Local Network permission is enabled for SonicSwarm in Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network.
Why is there a delay when playing from Spotify?
Spotify playback goes through the Spotify app on each device rather than SonicSwarm directly, so sync is close but not perfectly sample-accurate. For the tightest possible sync, use Import Track instead — it's SonicSwarm's most precise playback mode.
Do I need a Spotify Premium account?
Only if you want to use the Spotify feature. Spotify Premium and the Spotify app installed are both required on every device that wants to play from Spotify — this is a requirement from Spotify, not SonicSwarm. Import Track works with no account or subscription at all.
How many phones can join a swarm?
There's no hard limit, but SonicSwarm works best with a handful of devices in one room. Very large groups (10+ phones) may see slower connection times.
Does SonicSwarm work without internet?
Yes — SonicSwarm doesn't require an internet connection for its core feature. It syncs devices directly over your local Wi-Fi network, no cloud server involved. (Spotify playback specifically does require an internet connection, since it streams from Spotify's servers.)
Is my data collected or shared?
No. SonicSwarm doesn't use accounts, doesn't track usage, and doesn't send data to any server we operate. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
The app isn't syncing perfectly — is that normal?
A small amount of delay (well under a second) is expected, especially with Spotify. Import Track offers the tightest sync since it uses precise hardware-level timing. If sync feels significantly off, try moving devices closer to your Wi-Fi router and make sure no device is on a weak connection.
