Baile de las ovejas

The Baile de las Ovejas [dance of the sheep] follows the same structure as the Baile del Tres. Once the third dancer joins the dance and the three of them dance together for a moment, other members of the ensemble will join. The new dancers will place themselves behind one of the dancers of the same genre (male, female) putting their hand on top of the shoulder of the person in front of them. However, each new participant joins the dance one at a time and they try to keep the same number of dancers behind each of the principal dancers.

Before the performance, the ensemble will decide the order of the dancers’ entry. Although this decision might vary, Corazón Santadereano normally considers the age of the dancers for the ordering of their entry, from older to younger. The ensemble also tries to balance instruments that remain to accompany requinto, the tiple and the guitar, instruments that are required to perform this music. The Baile de las Ovejas [dance of the sheep] is not a required dance for the festival and its performance is decreasing in the festival; it has also been losing popularity in the Vélez community.
