The DC Trip was a school trip that occurred in late October 2021. Fuck it, third-person POV is overrated. This is something only I, John Someindustries (AKA SomeExistite), care about. This page is about my experience.
Here, you will find many resources pertaining to the DC Trip.
NOTES:
All times are EDT (Eastern Daylight Time) unless otherwise noted. The DC Trip occurred during daylight saving time.
Alternative versions may be available upon request.
This trip was organized by Prodigy Student Travel, Inc out of Worthington, OH.
Bus services were provided by Campbell Bus Lines out of Slippery Rock, PA, who provided two buses (predominantly for freshman students), and Worldwide Tours out of Indianapolis, IN, who provided eight(?) buses.
The trip was for 8th and 9th graders in the Fairfield City School District. Am I doxxing myself? Yeah. Do I care? Not really. Do any searching around on here and you'll find my exact location within minutes. I suspect the trip was offered to 9th graders as consolation prize for both the 7th grade Chicago trip and 8th grade DC trip were cancelled due to 2020.
I got this hoodie at the Smithsonian Museum of American History and I quite like it. Image is from Poshmark because I couldn't be bothered to take a picture of mine. Unfortunately, it's getting a bit small and they don't seem to be selling them new anymore. Also, why is Poshmark selling it used for $35? I got mine new for $30!
I really really really liked this trip. It has evidently stayed in my mind for the past 𝑥 years. It was rather 🏳️🌈.
The trip has a strange relationship to the soundtrack of Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010). You see, on my way on the bus back to home on the last day of the trip, I was listening to the soundtrack, "Giant Song" by Funeral Party to be specific. While thinking about what the fuck had just transpired over the previous 3.25 days, I heard the lyrics, "Like it's our last time / To capture what we find / Memories fog our minds / [We] left it all behind to find," which really resonated with me and I remember that moment well. Later, I learned that it's actually, "No memories fog our minds," which kinda pepper sprays my heartfelt moment, but still quite memorable. The entire soundtrack now just feels very DC Trip to me (yes, "DC Trip" is a noun, verb, adjective, all of that), even "All The Same" by Does It Offend You, Yeah?, which wasn't even on Spotify at the time. Now, I have yet more reasons to love the soundtrack (childhood nostalgia, the fact that it's actually an amazing soundtrack, it having influenced my music taste quite a bit, etc.).
The Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010) (2020 Remaster) soundtrack.
"Giant Song*" by Funeral Party.
*In game, it says it's titled "Giant Song", but on Spotify and everywhere else, it's just "Giant". Maybe "Giant Song" was the original name, but it was changed before the official release in Jan 2011? I don't know. It's still listed as "Giant Song" in Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered, released in 2020, which should give you an idea of how much of a "remaster" it was, since it's totally not just a re-release. I'm not saying the 2010 game shouldn't be available on newer consoles, but EA knows what they're doing, calling it a "remaster" when in reality they just added glare, made the DLC included with the base game, changed the UI a little bit for no reason, and charged an extra $10. "What a bargain! $30 for an entirely remastered version of my most favoritest game ever? I'll take 600!", the naive said. Also, this is the version I ripped from the album CD, which I bought both for preservation and because the rest of the album is pretty good.
"im beginning to believe that its not the straight people acting a bit gay, its the gay people that i falsely believe are straight"
- me, two days after the DC Trip (Nov 1, 2021)
Our tour guide was conservative, a baby boomer, a bit of a bitch at times (see direction 82 on the bus route), and saw the Kent State massacre first-hand.
In a never-complete SNN broadcast I was working on in the first half of 2021 (before the DC Trip), I included a quip in the news ticker about the DC Trip, that states, "LOCAL MIDDLE AND FRESHMAN STUDENTS HOPING THIS TRIP ISN'T CANCELED LIKE THE PAST 2". This is a reference to how time works (the first two, the 7th grade Chicago Trip and 8th grade DC Trip, were both cancelled because... you know... 2020 happened).
On the first day, at Pentagon City Mall (Fashion Centre at Pentagon City if you want to be politically correct), I revealed my homosexuality to my friend via the pride flag on my phone case.
On the second day, at Pentagon City Mall, I was extremely dehydrated from Arlington National Cemetery, so I purchased and drank a Dasani* bottled water. The only redeeming quality about Dasani* is its thirst-quenching properties when its so fucking cold you can't taste how awful it is. (*Likely Dasani, since it is owned by Coca-Cola, who have an established relationship with Simon Property Group, though it could have been Aquafina since the most recent article is from 2010.)
On the second day, on the bus leaving Pentagon City Mall, in a sleep deprived, delirious, and exhausted state, I revealed I had a crush on another person in our group to my friend (the same one from the first day). The best part about being sleep deprived, delirious, and exhausted is the lack of care about what you say. Fuck it, tell your friend about the crush you have on another person in the group, despite them not knowing you were gay until yesterday, its fine, nothing matters. It's what I assume being drunk feels like, but with less depression. It also happens that that friend was the only straight person in the group.
On the third day, at Pentagon City Mall, I didn't want to awkwardly follow the rest of the group around as they buy more Canadian flags, so I sat down and learned the lyrics to "Opposite of Adults" by Chiddy Bang, as seen on the Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010) soundtrack. Wonder Bread we can toast indeed. Actually, it might've happened on the second day, after dehydration, overconsumption, and general tiredness, at least according to my recollection of the trip from a little under a year after the trip happened. Also, according to my notes, Canada flags were purchased both days. My friend also bought a Squid Game mask from the tourist-bait stand at least twice.
