FOUNDING LETTER from THE BOARD
We believe Copenhagen is ready for a dedicated home where practitioners from different somatic traditions can meet, study, collaborate, and continue developing their work together. Through the organization, we hope to cultivate that community over the years ahead.
Starting this autumn, Somatic Movement Lab will host weekly Friday classes inspired by Body-Mind Centering® and The Axis Syllabus on Fridays from 12:30–14:30, along with two weekend workshops each year featuring international teachers, beginning with Scott Wells (USA) this November.
Members are also invited to LAB sessions: co-created spaces where different facilitators can share practices, experiments, and deeper explorations of somatic work.
Somatic Movement Lab is a non-profit organization led entirely by a volunteer board: Julie Rasmussen, Sebastian Grubb, Birgitte Lundtoft & Maja Ejrnæs. It is a democratic organization with an annual general assembly that elects the Board, decides on activities and reviews the budget.
Dansekapellet has generously offered its studios as our home base during this start-up phase. To build a sustainable organization, we are now looking for founding members who want to help shape the initiative from the beginning.
What’s included in a membership:
20% discount on all activities
Join semi-annual LAB sessions for free
Voting rights at the annual general assembly
Opportunities to help shape the future of the organization
Our introductory membership fee is 100 DKK for the remainder of 2026. From 2027 onward, membership will be 250 DKK per year (175 DKK per half year) - or what we agree upon at the general assembly.
Membership fees help cover the basic costs of running the organization, including banking, a website, and other administrative expenses. We have intentionally kept the fee accessible so that as many people as possible can take part in building this community.
We hope you’ll join us and help shape the future of somatic practice and research in Copenhagen. Just email us and we’ll send you info to join.
Ready to join or get involved? Add your email here and we'll reach out for next steps.

Our Board & Founding Teachers
Maja Ejrnæs is an experienced facilitator with a background in anthropology, movement practice, and performance art. She has worked extensively with sensory education through the award-winning performance group Sisters Hope, and is a certified facilitator of Building Conversation (dialogical art form). Since 2020, she has been part of building the movement community Rört in Copenhagen as a teacher of Contact Improvisation (CI). She’s currently working with evaluating the value of art and culture in society at the University of Copenhagen. Her previous work includes working with art-based recovery strategies through The Art of Transformation, and in 2019 she co-founded a forum theatre group that offered interactive sexual education for teenagers. As a practitioner of Contact Improvisation, she explores the phenomenology of touch and engages in developing scores for group improvisation.
Sebastian Grubb is an award-winning movement coach and dance artist based in Copenhagen and California. He teaches integrated movement technique to people of all kinds via personal coaching, weekly classes and deep-dive workshops. From 2007-2019 Sebastian choreographed, performed and toured contemporary dance works throughout the U.S. and internationally. From 2008-2024 Sebastian ran an outdoor workout company in San Francisco, then made Denmark his permanent home in 2025. He has been a long-term student of Scott Wells (improvisation and acrobatics) and Frey Faust (functional anatomy and dance research), among other influential teachers. He is the founder of Agile Beast and co-founder of Spiral Camp, both of which focus on making skills and techniques for dynamic movement accessible to all participants.

Birgitte Lundtoft (she/her) is a dancer, choreographer and somatic movement teacher based in Copenhagen.
‘As a dancer, choreographer and facilitator I create learning environments, performance installations and place- and process specific works that cultivate a language that paints with tactile, visual and moving articulations. I use somatic movement methods and practices as a point of departure from where the work grows its visceral texture in interaction with place. The work explores themes, formats and concepts such as radical softness, weaving of body and place, exploring non linear and polyrhythmic networks of things and beings.’
She holds a degree in Dance & Choreography from Danish National School of Performing Arts and is currently studying Body-Mind Centering® (2022 till ongoing) and Psychology.

Julie Rasmussen is a choreographer and dancer working between Denmark and Norway. Her artistic practice and work encompasses various formats such as performance making, performing, teaching and curation. Her work is rooted in dance and embodied practices, and often in close collaboration with music, rhythm and voice work. Her work is characterized by a rigorous and playful physical approach, where the raw and absurd energy meets the sensitive, soft and vulnerable. With a playful force, she is investigating the imagination and how to create new realities through physical experiences. Tapping into the place of the unexpected.
Julie has studied contemporary dance and choreography at the Danish National School of Performing Arts in Copenhagen (2009-13), Amsterdam School of the Art in Holland (exchange 2012) and SPIN OFF - pre-study in dance in Oslo/Norway (2008-09).
