Solena is a graduate of Dominican University of California with bachelor's degrees in Political Science and Music Performance. She continued her academic journey at New York University, where she earned her master's degree in Art and Public Policy. Grounded in this academic background, she approaches her research with a blend of curiosity and dedication, exploring the intersections of political theory and social justice to challenge and subvert dominant narratives.
Solena is also a performance artist and classically trained double bassist. Her music often includes multihyphenate elements, extrapolating the nuanced Black experience to create compositions that are rooted in technical expertise, transcending traditional boundaries while highlighting marginalized narratives often overlooked.
Solena Ornelas, beyond her roles as a scholar, performance artist, and classically trained double bassist, is a dedicated civil servant. Currently, she serves as a Congressional Fellow for Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries. Deeply concerned with aiding communities at the margins, Solena utilizes her academic background to guide her work. As a Congressional fellow, she focuses on assisting constituents and supporting the initiatives of the Leader's office, employing the theoretical framework established in her academic research to inform her efforts and ensure they are rooted in principles of social justice and equity.
