From a May 2, 2024 Facebook post by Andriy Gerus, Head of the Energy and Community Services Committee of Verkhovna Rada (Parliament of Ukraine):
The first Ukrainian hospital that operates as a power plant is now operating.
For the first time in Ukraine, the hospital began to sell to the network electricity produced by solar panels on its roof.
These are three polyclinics of the Khmelnitsky Medical and Diagnostic Center, where last year a nuclear power plant of 100 kW was installed.
Usually, solar energy (cess) on the roofs of hospitals produces electricity for their own needs. But from now on, in the hours when the nuclear power plant produces more electricity than polyclinics consume, the manufactured surplus is sold on the grid. This case is unique so far, but hundreds of hospitals could become a little more power plants . After all, it's also money for hospitals.
The mechanism of active consumer of electricity became possible thanks to the Law on the Restoration and Green Transformation of the Energy System of Ukraine adopted in 2023.
Thank you to the hmelnitskoblenergo team for their support in obtaining the status of an active consumer and the team of the moz, Khmelnitsky Medical and Diagnostic Center, and the mayor of the city of O. Simčišinu for a proactive progressive position.
