On February 19, during Mayor Sampayan’s State of the City address, the Mayor announced that city staff have begun negotiations for the development of 130 new residential units on top of the Phase B parking garage that will be built on the former post office site at 485 Santa Clara Street.
On February 20, the City released a press release officially announcing the news. City staff have begun negotiations with Holliday Development towards the exclusive right to develop the space surrounding the Phase B parking garage. Rick Holliday, founder of Holliday Development and co-founder of Mare Island-based module-housing builder Factory_OS, proposes to construct new ground-floor commercial space along with the 130 residential units.
In May 2019, the City terminated Callaghan Property Company’s right to exclusive development of the parcels above the Phase B parking garage. The company is in charge of the Waterfront Planned Development Master Plan, which aims to develop the Northern and Central Waterfronts with new housing and commercial space. However, the City’s termination of the Phase B garage development was taken based on mutual understanding between the City and the company.
The City anticipates a negotiated agreement to come before the City Council by the end of Spring 2020.
In other news, Mayor Sampayan also announced during his State of the City address that plans are in the works to bring SMART to downtown Vallejo using existing tracks along SR-37.
