You must be 18 or older and fill out an application to adopt, or have a legal guardian fill out all forms and accompany your pickup.
The adoption fee on our rats is as follows:
Rat Kittens (under 12 weeks)
Standard (any color): $20 each
Rex (any color): $25 each
Harley/Silvermane/Double Rex/Satin (any color): $30 each
There is a $10 discount on each additional rat after the second.
Teenagers/Retirees (over 12 weeks)
Free for returning adopters!
$15 each

Rats must be adopted in same-sex groups of 2 or more unless there is proof of similar-aged pet rats at home. Rats are a communal species and require companionship of their own kind to thrive, and babies do best with young peers to play with.
Rat kittens will be ready to go at no earlier than 6-8 weeks.
Rat Reservations (Rats Under 6 Weeks)
Rat reservations are first-come, first-serve to approved buyers who’ve submitted an application. If you see a baby that you would like held for you to adopt, a deposit of $10 per rat must be paid and is non-refundable and non-transferable. This fee goes toward the total adoption fee. The rest of the adoption fee will be due the day your rat is ready to go home (this will be given on their litter's listing). Please contact us for availability.
No refund will be given on any portion of the deposit. Once rats reach their "take home" date, you must make arrangements to pick up within 7 days. After the 7th day, your deposit and the rat(s) that you have reserved will be forfeited. If you need more time than this due to extenuating circumstances, please reach out to us directly! We can work around most issues. In the event that the reserved rats are made unavailable due to sickness, death, or any other circumstance owing to the fault of Solaire's Radiant Rattery, the deposit will, at the preference of the adopter, be refunded or applied to a future adoption. This is the only exception to our NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT policy.
Health Guarantee
Rats adopted from Solaire's Radiant Rattery are guaranteed to be sane and sound at time of pickup. This means that they will not be aggressive in nature, will not be spayed or neutered, will not be pregnant, and will not have any visible or suspected illness or injury.
Because we have no control of the care you offer your pet once they’ve entered your home, we do not have a health guarantee after your rat is adopted. However, we will be there to guide you through any issues you may have. If for any reason an issue comes up, please do not hesitate to contact us. We will work with you for a resolution. If a rat passes suddenly or shows aggression in the first 48 hours after adoption, we will replace it with a comparable rat, provided you return the original rat. If for any reason you decide that you cannot care for your rat, please contact us and we will find them a new home. Please do NOT release them in the wild or bring them to a shelter/rescue or give them to others who are not equipped to care for rats.
Pick Up and Delivery
Adopted rats can be picked up locally by adoption appointment. They can also be delivered within a 100-mile radius of our location, however, there will be a delivery fee of up to $75 added to the adoption price. If delivering, adoption and delivery fees must be paid in full 24 hours before the set delivery time. If you miss your adoption appointment, you may be charged an additional fee for your makeup appointment.
No Breeding
All of our rats are adopted out under a strict No Breeding Contract, unless otherwise stipulated. If you are a breeder looking to adopt one of our rats, contact us directly for more information.

Yes, you can. You must provide us with pictures/proof that you already have similar-aged rats at home. Young rats are much easier to introduce to established groups, however, they do best with a same-aged friend to play with!
Our rats are a labor of love! They are not the same quality of pet that you would find at a pet shop. We focus our breeding efforts on rats that are healthy, happy, and ready to thrive in the home setting! We handle every rat in the rattery each day, which takes a lot of time and effort, in order to have socialized, friendly rats when you pick them up!
We also work on "special" varieties; rats that are uncommon and unlikely to be seen at a pet store.
Lastly, adopting our rats comes with full lifetime support from us. We are always available via email to help if you need. If you ever need advice, or to return our rats for any reason, we will always be here to assist.
Unfortunately, we have had many people back out on adoptions in the past. When you make your $10 deposit, we know that you are committed to adopting. This $10 comes out of the adoption fee of the rat, so if the rat is $25 and you pay $10 deposit when picking out your rat, you will pay $15 at pickup. When rats are ready to go home, if you do not respond to us withing 48 hours, this deposit is forfeited and your chosen rat will be made available again.
Solaire's is a "closed rattery" which means that adopters do not enter our home to pick up their rats. The primary reason for this is to prevent any outside pathogens from entering our rattery. Further, our rats live in our home with us, and we value our privacy and personal security. If you would like to learn more about how our rats are raised, we have photos of their cage setups on our website, and we are more than happy to talk with you or share pictures or videos.
Yes! We send each rat home with a small bag of Mazuri Rat block and some treats so they can make the transition to the food you are using. We can also provide a small cardboard box for their ride home if you do not have a carrier. We plan to sell some extras in the future as well!
Currently, we can deliver up to 100 miles away, however, there will be a delivery fee of up to $75 added to the adoption price based on distance/time requirements. If delivering, adoption and delivery fees must be paid in full 24 hours before set delivery time. We do not currently ship my rats, but welcome out-of-state adopters who are willing to drive to pick up their babies!
Kittens are fully weaned and ready to go to their forever homes at about 6-8 weeks old. If you are adopting or putting a deposit on a rat, we will let you know when they will approximately be ready to go home with you!
