The Experimental Geomorphology and Soil Erosion Group (GEES) started its activities in Guarapuava in 1998 with research on erosion and soil degradation in yerba mate plantation. Currently the group has a national and international repercussion in topics such as: fire effects on soil properties and soil erodibility-erosion in agricultural systems. The GEES research group aims to: 1) Educate scientists in geography and related fields; 2) Produce knowledge in Geomorphology and Pedology and to promote the sustainable use of soil and water in catchment; 3) Produce knowledge about the hydro-erosive dynamics of tropical and subtropical soils; 4) Create and disseminate studies in Experimental Geomorphology based on Earth superficial processes. The Group currently has two research laboratories: a) Hydrogeomorphology (Irati) and b) Soil erosion - AMBIOTEC link - Guarapuava. Among the main equipment of the group are rainfall simulators for use in the field and in the laboratory.
