BADLAAV (Co-Founder)

28th May, 2017 , one day before the board results of ICSE , kshitij banal (co-founder , badlaav) and I Soham Gupta (founder , badlaav) sat in a park wondering what we could do to give back to society; and here we are today, 18 months into founding this prestigious organisation.

Badlaav is a teen run organisation currently registered with the Government of India having 93 members from all age groups, which was founded in May 2017. Badlaav aims to provide a platform to the youth to effect the change they wish to see. Badlaav has been involved in a wide array of activities encompassing issues ranging from environmental protection to entrepreneurial development. We strive to come up with innovative and different ways to make a positive change and we believe it is our ingenuity that makes us different from other organisations like us.

We take great pride in the work we do and are continuously looking to work in new avenues and make people lives better and easier with the help of simple measures.

Clothes collection Drive, Summer 2017.

Our organisation conducted its first drive this summer. We collected clothes from various localities in Pune and then segregated them. After neatly packing the clothes age and gender wise, we generously donated them to the needy and less fortunate. Our drive was a massive success where we, a group of sixty-five children collected over twenty thousand clothes! We donated the clothes to several trustworthy organisations. Some clothes were also sent to remote areas of Kenya! The spark in the eyes of the receivers compelled us to do more for the society. this event made me think a lot. being our first event i sat down and kept on writing the possible areas we could go wrong and then i made sure we didn't take those lines. This way , i learnt how to make sure that you overcome all the errors that you could face and then overcome them. another key aspect was to get work done. Being the founder , i was answerable to everyone. I made several calls , meetings and made sure everyones work was according to the timeline and this made me stick to the time constrain which is a very essential component in the 21st century where time is everything. during the segregation of clothes , we washed , ironed them and folded them. For a week , we took a huge hall and everyday sit from 8am-8pm and segregated clothes. this taught me how to divide work : few people were segregating the good clothes from the bad ones , a few people then again segregating them into various age groups and then folding and final packing. This taught me about the perfect working of an organization and how the system works and the tempos and distribution taught us about making contacts with several organizations and how to keep in touch with work. overall , starting this organization with this event gave us a boost and taught me many things that are very essential in todays world and the most important was satisfaction we got while doing this and the process was so much fun and joyous along with these small small things that matter in life :)

Entrepreneurship Summit, August 2017.

For our second event, we have come up with something even more interesting to give our audience a knowledgeable experience! We are inviting the founders and CEOs of a few successful start-ups from Pune to hold talks with our prospective audience. It will be an interactive session where the audience will get a chance to question and answer what they feel is right. They will learn about the planning required to start a business and how to be the best at what you are doing. We aim to inculcate in our audience the values of perseverance and hard work and how innovative ideas, if given shape, can prove to be fruitful in the future. Guidance in todays world is very important and we have to make sure we learn from others mistakes because life is too short to explore it yourself. Being extremely motivated , we wanted to make sure that all children of our age group have the same drive and make it big in life. this event required a total skill set and this is how i learnt how different things in life need different approach and similarly this was a very formal event. this way , i learnt how we reach out to the esteemed personalities of the city and make more contacts and how different people in different streams in life started from the bottom and made it very bug in life and this is how i got more motivated and started working more harder. reaching out to corporates taught me how to be very timely , a bit of dressing and how follow-up on certain events and also regular contact with all the speakers made us deal with different streams in life with great precision. while organizing this event , i learnt a lot about people and how we shouldn't be bogged down by obstacles in life and make ways how we overcome them taught me how to never ever give up and follow your dream no matter how hard it is to reach there but handwork and determination will always take us where we are bond to be and this is where i learnt that i should always believe in myself and live my dream.

Partnership with schools for Winter Clothes collection Drive

"Winter is coming" and we need to fight as one to survive it! Oh no! This is not Game of thrones but the winter in India has started becoming as severe and menacing as that of the night king in game of thrones... Jokes apart, statistically 826 people die every year in India due to the immense cold. The reasons include lack of supplies, shelter and most importantly ENOUGH protection from the cold. For winter we have all the luxuries of using a blanket and a jacket for example but the underprivileged face a lot of issues and and problems with regard to facing the cold. like the previous clothes drive we had everything in mind and planned perfectly. this time the challenge was different. Now , we had to collect clothes from the schools and reaching out to them was not easy. I learnt how to deal with several different levels of administration and how to face all the hurdles that came up again and the collaboration we have to do with the school administration was a very helpful and i learnt a lot from it. I did this as I realized that people like me and my friends were extremely privileged to live a life in which every day we can go home and have a good day’s rest, with all the amenities that we need in order to live a comfortable life. This brought me to think about all the underprivileged people who do not live the same life as I do, and hence there was almost an aura of guilt This brought me to think about all the underprivileged people who do not live the same life as I do, and hence there was almost an aura of guilt which surrounded me once i started this revelation. This was probably the main reason why I started this organization, as it is a way to give back to the needy who are not lucky enough to live the same lives as us. I also realized that by attempting to aid their education, the underprivileged children could learn and grow up to get out of the unfortunate limbo that they are in, as education provides one of the building blocks for a good life

Making usable bags from old clothes

In response to the much needed plastic ban in the state of Maharashtra, Badlaav conducted multiple workshops for students of all ages. The members of Badlaav found a method to convert old t-shirts into cloth bags that could be used in various ways, using only a pair of scissors.

We collaborated with Vidya Valley School and Vikhe Patil Memorial School, in Pune. We held workshops for over 800 children and teachers from the schools. We also set up interactive sessions with civilians in public places to spread awareness on alternatives to plastic.

NoteBook Cover Design Contest

Badlaav collaborated with Between The Lines, an organization that produces notebooks and channelizes for a platform that enables artists to showcase their talent through sketches, which is converted into the notebook covers. Badlaav has been bestowed with the honor to design an entire series of notebook covers for them to bring about a change. Thus we found enthusiastic artists who want to showcase their talent to the world.
