My name is Sofia Ortiz, I am mother of two extraordinary children and a strong woman who is eager to learn new things every day. Our lives changed when we came to Canada from Colombia, but nothing was as unexpected as received the diagnosis of Autism of my youngest son in 2016. Start from something so negative for my family and turned into a positive outcome was not an easy task. My feelings, my dreams and my plans were crushed, but when I found the Educational Support Program in Sheridan College I felt as if a door to a new direction opened just in front of me.
I consider myself an active person in relation to children with exceptionalities and I try to instruct and educate myself constantly to help my son and other children who are in the same situation as him. I am also a person with a solidarity heart with those who are close to me and with the community in general, since nothing fills me more with joy than being able to share with others what I have with myself.
I enjoy spending time with my family, eating good food, learning new languages, watching sports, reading books and helping people regardless of their condition and more important without expecting anything in return.
With my career as Educational Assistant, I not only hope to be able to give back to Canada everything it has done for my children and for me, since we found our home here, but also to society for all the benefits that my son has received since he received his diagnosis.
