FAQs

Choosing a tutor is an important decision.  For an initial discussion about your child's tutoring requirements, please email socialsciencetutor@outlook.com.

Do you guarantee top grades?

Whilst I cannot guarantee specific results or grades (as this depends on the student's motivation and performance on the actual exam day) my current private students are doing very well.  Some of my former students have kindly provided reviews; please see the Testimonials page.

Are you qualified?

I am one of the best qualified social science tutors in the UK, with three degrees and a PGCE. I have studied at two Russell Group Universities and won various academic prizes.  I have a full DBS Enhanced Disclosure certificate as well as Qualified Teacher Status.  It is likely that I am more highly qualified and experienced than your child's school or college teacher!

What resources will be needed?

Students will need a copy of the course textbooks.

Do you tutor Home Ed A level students?

Yes - I have taught many home educated learners, who can choose from one-to-one or group tuition.  For home educated students looking to apply to university I am able to be an Academic Referee and supply a reference to UCAS at no extra cost, provided there are weekly lessons with me.

How do I find an exam centre?

I am an approved Learning Partner for Tutors and Exams, who run examination centres across the UK. External candidates can register with them to sit their Psychology exams. I can even provide you with a discount code to reduce your entry fees if you are learning with me.  Go to the Examination Centres page to learn more.

When do you tutor?

I offer term-time contracts based on the academic year - most students learn with me from June or September until the May exams.  Typically, I am available from 11:30 until 21:00 on weekdays. I do offer a few weekend slots, but these are charged at a higher rate (see below).

What are your fees?

A level group tuition: £24 per hour

One-to-one tuition on weekdays before 3:30 pm: £56 per hour

One-to-one tuition on weekdays from 3:30 pm: £60 per hour

University tuition: £70 per hour

Weekend tuition: £70 per hour

How can I pay?

Payment is usually made in advance by direct bank transfer every half term.

What if I need to cancel?

Students who arrive late will still be required to pay the full price of the lesson.  Similarly, I require notice in advance if a lesson needs to be postponed or cancelled. Full terms and conditions will be provided in writing before the first lesson.

Can you help with UCAS?

I offer help with UCAS course searches, personal statements and the overall quality of your online application.  I specialise in supporting students looking to study:

Do you recommend tutors of other subjects?

I am proud to be a member of the prestigious Society of Tutors. We are a group of professional and well-qualified tutors representing a range of subjects. Most of us have degrees from Russell Group universities, some are Oxbridge graduates and we all have extensive experience of delivering exam specifications.  We are all self-employed so you have no costly agency fees to pay. Please visit the Society of Tutors website where you can search by subject and level.
