The University of Alcalá, under the direction of Dr. Soraya García Esteban, launched a pilot project in collaboration with Dr. Camino Bueno, from the Public University of Navarre, both being members of the project's research team. In this exchange, they used a pre-existing questionnaire on emotional competence, based on the OCEDE instrument (2018), while the final questionnaire for the SOCIOEMOVE project was being developed.

Various forms of virtual exchange were implemented, addressing different topics such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Great Books. They also combined different pedagogical approaches, including task-based telecollaboration, structured intercultural exchange, project-based virtual exchange, and experiences inspired by models such as Erasmus+ Virtual Exchange.

Unlike traditional virtual exchange models, during this pilot phase the interaction took place between undergraduate and master's students from different courses at the same university.
