SSI’s Medical Relief Initiative is a social impact project with a focus on improving the rural healthcare delivery mechanisms by enhancing and supporting curative care at rural hospitals and providing critical support to the intensive Care Units (ICUs) to enable the hospital to provide the critical medical services to the local rural population hence improving medical outcomes and saving many lives.
Lack of adequate intensive care unit (ICU) facilities at the hospital and critical medical equipment like ventilators and BIPAPs.
Hospital Forced to refer away their patients who require intensive care to Corporate Hospitals or other local hospitals.
Lack of timely access to critical care for patients from the villages due to distances to access lifesaving treatment.
High cost of critical care for patients from the villages who often cannot afford the medical expenses and travel expenses.
We worked with G Vasudeva Pai Memorial Hospital located in Moodbidri, Karnataka, a 35 bedded hospital run by the G Vasudeva Pai Charitable Trust. The hospital caters to the medical needs of the citizens from Moodbidri and the surrounding 28 villages. The hospital boasts of experienced doctors and nursing staff and is well known in the community for their dedication and ever-smiling service to the patients.
“The intensive care unit set up in our hospital on 8/8/2021 by your effort and generosity, was the turning point in the development of our hospital. We are very proud to mention that I.C.U has been functioning very well catering to the needs of the community and we have managed around 576 cases. Your contributions have helped in uplifting and upgrading the services of the post operative ward of the hospital too. Through the unit we have been catering to the paediatric patients who need I.C.U. We provide Dialysis services at a meagre Rs.400 to all BPL card holders. Since 2021, we have invested over 1 crore in infrastructure and services and this year we wish to raise 20 lakhs to add 6 beds to ICU and other patient facilities.”
