Stepping into the Portal of Identities and Emotions

Throughout the course of this mini unit, students in grades K-2 will be exploring the emotions happy, sad, and mad through the practice of dynamic qualities within Hip-Hop movements. While engaging and embodying Hip-Hop movements, students will be reflecting upon personal experiences and feelings by exploring the relationship between dynamic qualities and emotions. Students will create their own "personal portals" by tracing their feet and drawing images inside of the footprints to portray their personal experiences. By jumping into their personal portals, students will take ownership in their own emotions and how they can constructively express themselves. This mini unit encourages students to discover the many ways in which they experience emotions similarly and differently.
