There are things in life that we just can't control, and in this moment of time we are in that situation. Who would have of thought our lives would of been flipped just like that? Our children are learning from home, parents and guardians have become teachers, teachers are teaching in a way that they have never been prepared for, and no one knows when or how it is all going to end. I am sure you are all worried about the academics of your children, or if you are teaching them correctly, but what the most important element is the well-being of you and your family. Brian Tracy says, "Positive emotional energy is the key to health, happiness, and wellbeing. The more positive you are , the better your life will be in every area." It is okay if you only get five minutes of work done, it is not the end of the world if your child only completes five problems out of the fifteen they were given. This is a time of uncertainty for everyone, if you are feeling afraid, your child might be feeling afraid. If you are feeling overwhelemled, your child is most likely feeling overwhelmed. It is okay to stop, take a deep breath, and not worry about schoolwork. This is a time for families to spend time with one another, give your child a hug every five minutes if you have to, bake cakes with them, build tall towers out of toothpicks and marshmallows. It is okay to put the pencil down and focus on your health and your child's emotional needs. We are all in this together and like Buzz Lightyear says, " The important thing is that we stick together!"

Throughout this site I have provided resources for parents, families, and children to focus on their social-emotional needs. There are activities, articles, videos, coloring pages, etc. to help your family get through this time of uncertainty. And when your child wants to put the pencil down, you let them, and if you have had enough for the day, you put the pencil down. Take a deep breath and focus on the important things in life right now: your family, your health, your child's needs.
