The Diocesan Catholic Soccer Tournament aims to unite Catholic parishes across our diocese for a weekend centered on faith, fellowship, competition, and community.
The event encourages teamwork, sportsmanship, and parish unity while preparing a representative team for the annual Communio Diocesan Cup in Irving, Texas.
The tournament would also provide an opportunity to select a team to represent our diocese at the annual Communio Diocesan Cup, hosted at the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas.
The Diocese of Dallas will host their Communio Diocesan Cup on September 26–27. Our diocesan tournament would be held in early September, allowing time for the winning team to prepare and represent our diocese

Tournament Overview
Format - 11v11, co-ed, outdoor — full-sided soccer
Dates - September 26–27, 2026
Venue University of Dallas, hosted with the Diocese ofDallas
Mission - Unity of the Church through competition, fraternity, and faith
Significance - The first-of-its-kind statewide Catholic soccer tournament
Eligibility & Team Approval
Per the official Communio CSSC 11v11 Rulebook
Every team must be officially blessed and approved by its diocesan bishop (or delegate) before competing
Players must be practicing Catholics in good standing (Sunday Mass, annual Confession, Easter Eucharist, Holy Days, fast & abstinence, stewardship) and permanent residents within the diocese they represent
Players must be 18 years old by the tournament date
Current or committed collegiate athletes are not eligible; former collegiate athletes are eligible
Current professional players may play — limited to a maximum of 3 per roster
Government-issued photo ID required at every game; rosters are checked before each match
Format, Scoring & Match Length
Match Length: Two 25-minute halves; halftime no more than 7 minutes
Standings: 3 points for a win, 1 for a tie, 0 for a loss
Tiebreakers: Head-to-head, then fewest goals allowed, then most goals scored, then FIFA kicks or a coin toss
Overtime (non-final): Two 5-minute periods, then FIFA kicks from the mark alternating male/female kickers
Championship Game: Cannot end in a tie; may play two 45-min halves; 15-min OT, then kicks if still tied
Scoring: Every goal (male or female) counts as 1 point; no male player may score more than 3 points in a game
Rules & Discipline Highlights
FIFA Laws of Soccer govern play, with Communio CSSC modifications noted below
On the Field
Minimum 3 female field players at all times; no more than 7 male field players
One male and one female player always required on the field
Free rolling substitution with referee approval
Minimum 7 players to start (incl. 3 female field players + GK) or forfeit
Discipline & Conduct
Yellow/red cards follow a points-based system; ejections carry at least a
1-game suspension and fine
All misconduct reported in writing within 12 hours
Slide tackles with contact are unsporting behavior; excessive force is a red
card
Forfeits require 24-hour notice; late forfeits and no-shows carry fines
Uniforms & Kit Ordering
All teams must wear official Communio Diocesan Cup kits for a unified, professional tournament look
Each player kit includes a custom jersey, shorts, and socks — approximately $75 per player

Ordering is coordinated directly between each team's captain or coach and the tournament's designated vendor
Shin guards are mandatory and must be FIFA-approved; socks must fully cover the guards
Playing shoes must meet FIFA standards — no metal cleats, spikes, or toe cleats
All jersey numbers must match the official game sheet before kickoff
