Lessons Learned from SOAR

Using the SOAR Interactive Dashboard specific years and events have been highlighted to show how Loyola has been a bird safe university in the past.

SOAR began in 2012. That year the Information Commons (IC East) killed many birds (SOAR collected 43 bird, but many birds are injured and never collected, or eaten by predators). In 2013 the blinds on the IC were automated to come down at times when migratory birds are most active. The number of birds collected by SOAR dropped to 11 in 2013.

The next problematic building for Birds on Loyola's campus was the Norville Intercollegiate Center specifically the weight room (labeled as Norville East). In 2016 a new Rambler decal went up that covered most of the glass on the east side of the building. From 2015 to 2016 the number of birds collected by SOAR dropped from 33 birds to only 10.
