The Guardian differs from any other news source. The Guardian is British newspaper and "The paper was intended to promote the liberal interest in the aftermath of the Peterloo Massacre, and in the context of the growing anti-Corn Laws campaign flourishing in Manchester during this period." (History of The Guardian) I think this is important because they stand out from other newspapers. I believe most of the news in the United States are all the same, but The Guardian shows a unique perspective when it comes to news. With their "Liberal" ideology, they can speak freely to the world on serious topics. Journalist from The Guardian were able to get the real story from Edward Snowden in Hong Kong. One of the journalist was Glenn Greenwald, he was included in the documentary, CitizenFour.

Glenn Greenwald was one of few journalist to see Edward Snowden in Hong Kong. Greenwald was a former Constitutional law and Civil Rights litigator. (http://glenngreenwald.net/) He was a former columnist for The Guardian and is now a founding editor of The Intercept. (http://glenngreenwald.net/) I believe that Greenwald's resume stands out compared to any journalist because he was able to get the best information and find Edward Snowden. Interviewing Snowden, asking questions, and showing amazement, Greenwald is one of the most important figures because without his work, the world would have never known about surveillance.

The Pew Research Center is an American group based out of Washington D.C., known for their polls and analysis of media content. The nonpartisan group ranked as one of the least biased sources of information by MediaBiasFactCheck.com, and has been known to be exceptionally reputable throughout their 27 year existence. Created in 1990 as a research project known as the Times Mirror Center for the People & the Press, the Pew Charitable Trust, the Times Mirror Center’s main sponsor, established the Pew Research Center and absolved the Times Mirror Center and made the then director, Andrew Kohut, the publications first president. The center is a tax exempt, non-profit organization. It is a subsidiary of the Pew Charitable Trust whose actions are largely funded through grants from the aforementioned head company, both facts are shown through their 501(c)3 organization status and their IRS Form 990, respectfully. The company's mission is to “generate a foundation of facts that enriches the public dialogue and supports sound decision-making” (PewResearch.org). Considering that the group not only funds themselves, but also has been noted as having little to no biased views, those provide more than enough proof to say that they are a credible source for information.

The American Civil Liberties Union, or ACLU for short, is a non partisan group dedicated to putting out as much non-biased coverage of stories as they can. Their mission is “to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States" (ACLU.org). Founded during the turmoil of WWI in 1917, the ACLU has been advocates for free expression and other rights guaranteed by the constitution, regardless who the group is that is being infringed upon, causing them to come under fire for going as far as to defend the Ku Klux Klan, American Nazis, and the Nation of Islam. The ACLU is a non profit organization that operates in every state except for ,Wyoming, as well as having offices in Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico. MediaBiasFactCheck.com has them listed as left-centered biased, primarily because of their lack of coverage of gun rights issues.

By Glenn Greenwald
No Place to Hide is a novel that provides the reader with a comprehensive analysis of the Edward Snowden affair. Authored by the first reporter to be contacted by Snowden, Glenn Greenwald. Greenwald, a former constitutional lawyer, began his his career as a political journalist in 2005. Before No Place to Hide, Greenwald wrote four other controversial books with a political activism that critical thinkers can admire. Whether his readers agree with his politics or not, one can appreciate the dedication and time Greenwald spends making his agreements justified. His extensive background as a litigator, columnist, and successful author make him a reputable source for his novel.
Greenwald was given the opportunity for a first-hand account with Edward Snowden. Before the media or government had a chance to react or contact Snowden. The information Greenwald acquired from Snowden was untarnished by the media. For the work that he and his team accomplished, they received a George Polk award and a Pulitzer prize for their reports. After researching Greenwald I found his background impressive and qualified to use as my primary source for this project.

I also used TED talks as a primary source. TED talks give the reader the opportunity to hear the discussion straight from the source. They provide information on a range of different videos from experts in their fields. TED talk is at the forefront of spreading information through the internet. From famous pioneers like Steven Hawking to religious leaders like Pope Francis. For this project I watched a few talks from both side of the argument which allowed me to make my own conclusions. Below is a Ted Talk by Greenwald discussing why the need for privacy is imperative for a successful society. I found his arguments in the talk equally compelling as the ones provided in his novel.

It is driven by live coverage. The online site is now one of the most popular news websites in the world. J. Kirk Wiebe wrote the article posted on the CNN website http://www.cnn.com/2013/12/17/opinion/wiebe-snowden-amnesty/. He, like Snowden was a former NSA analyst, and resigned in 2001. He is known for appearing on 60 minuets and front line for interviews. He was a part of the U.S. Air Force Security Service and is pro-Constitution. He attended Indiana University. Known as a whistle blower, he retired from the NSA after working for 36 years and became a consultant on massive data exploitation. It was for “a small team for a focused company intent on solving analysis problems involving massive data environments through the use of rules-based automation techniques to achieve an agile, knowledge-based enterprise solution that "learns" over time.”

The Guardian is a non for profit news organization that posts news from all over the world about stories others news organizations will not. Being a non for profit organization they are not being bribed to write for a specific side. Ewen MacAskill is the Guardian's defense and intelligence correspondent. Glenn Greenwald is a former columnist on civil liberties and US national security issues for the Guardian and an ex-constitutional lawyer. He supports both democratic and republican views in his writing. He is the one who brought the story to the attention of the guardian website and was in contact with Snowden. Greenwald won both a George Polk award and a Pulitzer Prize and has written a bestselling book. Greenwald has been considered one of the most influential opinion columnists in the United States.

Daily News is a daily newspaper company headquartered in New York City, hence nydailynews. The company was created because the founders could not agree with publishers from the Chicago Tribune. The company strives to provide easy to understand news for the public, most of what they publish is relevant to New York, however, specific issues that are large enough, such as Edward Snowden's release, will be published in their news. They are known for their heavy use if pictures in their papers, as well as an easy to handle size. Mortimer Zuckerman is the publisher for Dailey News and is quite the middles man when it comes to political views. He has donated money to independent candidates during elections and supports the independent parties. He does support the Democratic party as well, however, calls them out when he sees problems. He isn't the type of person to blindly follow anything just to go with it, he acts as his own person with his own ideas.

The Committee on the Judiciary from the United States Senate, aka the Judiciary Committee, is a subsection of the United States Senate that discusses and reviews issues relating to things spanning from law enforcement to copyright issues. The committee is comprised of twenty members that focus on bringing bills to the senate relating to justice. Their website, www.judiciary.house.gov, has an explanation of the main topics of the USA Freedom Act. Although it is a government source, they are the committee in charge of overseeing things related to the justice in the US. They were key players in the USA Freedom Act. It gives details of what is in the act and what its limited or changed in government surveillance. The USA Freedom Act is an important piece relating to the topic of Edward Snowden, because it was an enacted due to Snowden's release of what the government actually does.
