Kid Librarian

For grades K-6

How would YOU like to create a book display for the Children's Department? We will meet with you to help you curate your own book display that will be featured for one week. Choose the books, make the sign and add your own personal touch. You'll learn how to use our catalog system, and you'll even get to go behind the desk to scan the books! Fill out the "job application" on our website, or in person at the Children's Desk to participate.

Children's Choice Awards Book Club

Mondays, December 1st, January 5th & February 2nd at 6:30 p.m.

For grades 3-6

Discover some of the best chapter books written this year while having fun with friends! Start a book each month and then finish it on your own. Read all eight titles in time to vote for your favorite one in April, then we’ll celebrate the winner in May. PLUS, be entered to win a $50 gift card if you finish reading at least four of the titles and cast your vote in time. 

Register for each session separately beginning on the 15th of the prior month.

Pajama Party Movie Night

Wednesday, December 3rd from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

For grades 2-5

Wear your favorite PJ’s and warm up with us with a DIY hot chocolate bar, holiday crafts, and A Muppets Christmas Carol movie! Grownups, who have a lot to do to get ready for the holiday season, can drop off their children for this two-hour program packed with cozy holiday fun!

Register beginning November 15th.

Taylor Swift's Birthday Party (Library Version)

Friday, December 12th from 6 - 8 p.m.

For all ages. Parents of younger children are asked to stay through the event.

Back by popular demand! We’re going to celebrate the birthday of everyone’s favorite pop Showgirl, Taylor Swift, and you’re invited! Come dressed in your favorite Eras-inspired outfit, make and trade friendship bracelets, check out all of the Swiftie-inspired activities, and end the night Shaking It Off with a Taylor Swift dance party!

Register beginning November 15th and kindly register each family member individually.

Dog Man Book Club

Wednesdays, December 17th, January 7th & 21st & February 4th  at 6 p.m.

For grades 2-5

We know you can’t get enough of Dog Man and neither can we! We’ll meet four times to discuss the books, chat about our favorite characters, and maybe even learn to write and draw our own Dog Man stories. Sign up for each class separately and stop by the Children’s Desk for a copy of the respective book: 

December 17th—A Tale of Two Kitties;

January 7th—Dog Man and Cat Kid

January 21st—Brawl of the Wild

February 4th—For Whom the Ball Rolls.

K-Pop Demon Hunters Sing-Along

Friday, January 9th from 5-7 p.m.

For grades 5-12

Join us for a high-energy K-Pop Demon Hunters party that mixes music, dance, food, and fun. Come dressed as your favorite character and get ready to sing along to your favorite songs from the movie while enjoying Korean-inspired food and other activities.

Saddle Up For Stories

Saturday, January 10th at 11 a.m.

For grades K-4

Trot on over for an educational and entertaining storytime all about horses. Learn about life on a horse farm through the adventures of Lady Thistle, a horse series by local author D.H. Anderson.  A craft and snack are included in this program.

Winter Animals

Monday, January 12th at 6:30 p.m.

For grades K-4

Local wildlife survives our cold and snowy winters by either moving away, sleeping in, or toughing it out. Discover some of the amazing adaptations that allow animals to survive through the winter in this class presented by Allegheny County Parks.

Abstract Watercolor Design

Tuesday, January 20th at 6 p.m.

For grades 2-4

Have fun creating abstract figures and then use your new watercolor skills to bring them to life.

Printmaking

Tuesday, January 27th at 6 p.m.

For grades 3-6

Create a one-dimensional robot out of cardboard. Then learn a form of printmaking to make an original print of your robot.

Register beginning January 2nd.

Time Together

Thursday, January 29th at 6:30 p.m.

For grades K-6.

It’s National Puzzle Day! Meet us at Friendship Village in Upper St. Clair to work different types of puzzles with the Village residents. Come join the fun in this intergenerational program done in partnership with Friendship Village and WQED.

Fairytale Detectives: Scavenger Hunt in the Library

Saturday, February 1st - 28th

For grades K-4

Mission: Fairy tale characters have escaped from their stories and are hiding throughout the Library! We need sharp-eyed detectives to track them down and help return them to their rightful books. Find all the hidden characters and earn a prize! Start your quest by visiting the Children’s Desk to get your first clue. The hunt is self-guided and available anytime during the month of February.

No registration necessary.

Chess Club

Mondays, February 2nd - 23rd  at 6 p.m.

No class 2/16

For grades 3-6 

This club is for beginner chess players to learn and practice the game. It will be led by the BPHS Chess Club faculty sponsor and student volunteers.

Register for the entire series beginning January 15th.

Pet Adoption Day

Tuesday, February 24th at 6 p.m.

For grades K-2

Adopt a pet reading buddy. Have fun rotating through various centers that will prepare you for becoming a responsible pet owner.
