It is rare to find someone who has not spent hours of their childhood playing the famous children's game. With several variants and names like "Pairs", "Concentration", "Match Up", "Pelmanism", and others, it was officially published in its most popular form in 1959 by the German publisher Ravensburger under the name "memory®". However, you can find records of similar games of memory and matching pairs all around the world and dating from long before, such as the Kai-awase in the Edo era from 16th century Japan, played with beautiful hand painted shells.
We have the audacious goal of taking a step further in these centuries of history. Like children, who grow and mature seeking ever more challenges and intellectually stimulating activities, this game introduces a new layer of strategic depth to the classic without losing its essence. With move patterns borrowed from another popular game, Chess, and alternating backs, players can use strategies to improve their chances of finding matching pairs increasing tactical thinking. This also encourages adults, who no longer need to rely only on their memory to play effectively.
Memory Kings is a family abstract game with tactical movement and memory elements for 1 to 4 players. It is based on the classic children's game Pairs (a.k.a. Match Up or Concentration), but with a tactical twist. Players must find divided troops to recruit them by strategically moving their pawns across a grid of hidden cards. They can solicit rooks, bishops, knights, or the Queen herself to escort the pawns. The player that recruits the most pairs wins!
Memory Kings is currently a self-published game and only manufactured by demand via The Game Crafter.
