INHERENTPRIVACY POLICY

Privacy Policy

For the Inherent app for iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Last updated: September 30, 2026

THE SHORT VERSION

Your photos never leave your device, and there are no accounts. Only if you agree, Inherent sends anonymous usage data: when the app is opened, and which camera model a RAW file came from. You can change your choice in Settings at any time.

No names, no email, no photos, no file names, no location, no advertising, and no tracking across apps or websites.

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE

Inherent is developed and published by Christian Hämmerle, Hintermetzentaler 40, 6094 Axams, Austria (“we”, “the developer”). We are the controller of the data described in this policy. You can reach us at snapbackcams@.gmail.com

This policy covers the Inherent app on iPhone, iPad and Mac (“the app”).

YOUR PHOTOS AND FILES

Inherent works only with files you choose yourself. When you import RAW files through the system file picker, from an SD or CF card reader, for example, the app keeps a working copy in its own private storage on your device so it can develop them. Your edit settings (exposure, highlights, shadows, rotation, profile) are stored there too.

All decoding, color and tone processing runs entirely on your device using Apple’s built-in image frameworks. Your photos are never uploaded, and we never see them.

Photos library. On iPhone and iPad, the app asks for add-only access, used for one purpose: saving a developed image to your library as a new photo when you export it. It cannot read, browse or upload your existing library, and it never changes or deletes your originals. On Mac, the app saves to Photos in the same way, and “Save As” writes a file only to the location you pick.

Mac comparison view. JPEG and RAW files you open for side-by-side comparison are read locally and never transmitted.

ANONYMOUS USAGE DATA

To learn which cameras people use and which ones to support next, the app can send a small amount of usage data. It is off until you agree: on first launch the app asks whether you want to share it, and nothing is sent unless you tap “Share”. You can change your choice any time in Settings. When it is on, the app sends:

We do not collect your name, email address, photos, image content, file names, other metadata such as GPS location or serial numbers, contacts, or any advertising identifier. There are no advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs from third parties in the app.

HOW THE DATA IS STORED

The usage data is stored in a database of the app in Apple’s CloudKit service, which Apple operates on our behalf. It is only sent if you are signed in to iCloud on the device, and it is transmitted encrypted.

As with any CloudKit data, Apple automatically attaches an identifier to each record that stands for your iCloud account within this app only. It looks like a random code and does not reveal your name, email or Apple Account. We cannot use it to find out who you are. We do not use it to identify or track anyone, and we do not combine it with any other data.

Apple processes the connection (for example your IP address) to deliver the data. We do not receive IP addresses. Apple’s handling is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.

We never sell or share the usage data, and we use it only in aggregate, for example “how many frames from a Nikon D200 were opened this month”, to decide which cameras to support and to improve the app.

LEGAL BASIS (EEA, UK, SWITZERLAND)

The usage data is processed only on the basis of your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you give in the app’s first-launch prompt or in Settings. You can withdraw it at any time by switching the setting off; this does not affect processing that happened before. Processing of your photos happens only on your device to provide the app’s function you requested.

HOW LONG DATA IS KEPT

On your device: working copies, thumbnails and edit settings stay in the app’s storage until you remove them with “Clear” in the app or delete the app.

Usage data: kept only as long as it is useful for these statistics, and deleted or reduced to aggregate counts after at most [24 months].

YOUR CHOICES AND RIGHTS

Change your choice: in the app’s Settings, switch “Share anonymous usage data” on or off. When it is off, nothing is sent.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete data about you, to restrict or object to its processing, and to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority. Because the usage data carries no name or contact detail, we usually cannot tell which records are yours. If you want us to act on a request, contact us and we will help as far as we can.

BETA TESTING AND THE APP STORE

The app is distributed through Apple’s App Store (and, for beta testers, TestFlight). Apple may provide us with crash reports and aggregated usage statistics if you have chosen to share them with developers in your device settings. That data is collected by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy and your device settings, not by the app.

CHILDREN

The app is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA), and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

If the app starts handling data differently, we will update this policy here and change the “Last updated” date before the change takes effect.
