Our Story
Founded in 2019, Smyth Animal Rescue strives to lower the euthanasia rates in SWVA & to improve the lives of our region's pets. SAR pulls many dogs and cats from the local public county shelter. While SAR transfers many to our wonderful rescue partners, we also double our local adoptions year after year.
Our Team
SAR's core volunteer team is lead by executive director Emi Scott. Since assuming leadership in July 2021, SAR has increased our number of volunteers, partners, and adopters. Our team is passionate about animal rescue and has a lot of fun in the process. No matter your skills or interests, there's something for everyone!
Stats & Docs
Running animal rescue is just like running a small business - there's important docs and required annual filings. For your convenience, we've included links to our important docs here. SAR is proud to be Silver certified by Guidestar - giving people the information they needed to do good.
Our Partners
Smyth Animal Rescue is fortunate to work with amazing partners in Northern VA & beyond. Our trusted partners are dedicated to helping saving at-risk animals in underserved areas of Virginia and southern states struggling with high euthanasia rates. SAR works hand-in-hand with our sister organization, Smyth County Humane Society, to reduce pet overpopulation with spay/neuter and to help keep pets with their people.
