Collecting and Analyzing Data
The Counselor Advisory Council (CAC) collected feedback data from different student groups including Peer Assistance and Leadership (PAL), National Junior Honor Society, Teen Leadership, and grade level representatives as well as district culture and climate student surveys. The CAC organized and disaggregated student responses. The data indicated that students did not feel equipped with the tools to handle stress and build resiliency.
Planning
The CAC discussed methods for how to provide opportunities for students to learn these skills. It was determined by the CAC that skill building lessons would be created and taught during classroom guidance. The CAC also determined a need for specific students to participate in small psychoeducational groups teaching these skills.
Designing
Lessons were designed to meet the needs of students while also teaching needed skills. These lessons were delivered during guidance lessons. The counselors also created an 8 lesson curriculum, Renovate your Mind, designed to teach students resiliency skills and stress reducing techniques. Implementing
Counselors held student workshops during lunch time as well as had lunch bunch group sessions for students. The counselor created curriculum was 8 sessions taught over 8 monthly meetings.
Evaluating
The CAC evaluated the results from pre-/post- surveys given to the students who participated. The students were able to identify stress reduction techniques they learned as well as resiliency skills they built from the sessions.
