The Singing Men of Texas was organized in 1975 by the Church Music Department of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Singing Men of Texas consists of full-time, part-time, and retired ministers of music, pastors, associate pastors and Baptist university faculty who have a profound desire to share the gospel of Jesus Christ through music in local churches, in our nation, and abroad. The six Singing men of Texas chapters provide an outlet for these men to present monthly Christian concerts in churches across the state, while also providing a great opportunity for worship and fellowship.
The Singing Men of Texas have traveled to Australia, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, Eastern and Western Europe, as well as throughout the United States. In 2015, a ministry trip to Ukraine by the combined SMOT choirs had an impact for the Kingdom rarely seen in any other way, with thousands of decisions for Christ. In October 2018, all six combined SMOT chapters traveled to New York City to sing in historic Carnegie Hall and minister throughout the city in six churches partnered with the Manhattan Baptist Convention.
The Southeast chapter of the Singing Men of Texas concert season is from September through May and includes an annual retreat in late August. Rehearsals and concerts are held Thursdays, and the group sings in churches in Southeast Texas area, including Houston and surrounding counties and the Beaumont, Port Arthur area.
