Our Mission

Starting from humble beginnings, our recitals began with the idea of celebrating our own loved ones, friends, and family affected by cancer: we could play music without having requirements to fulfill or competitions to win. Now, this project has become a celebration of not only our own love of music, but our ability to share it with other members of a cancer-impacted community. Here at SMILE, we believe that investing in the current groundbreaking cancer research can make a true impact, not only for our families and community who enjoy our music now, but for all patients who have yet to be treated in the future. Not all of us high school musicians are part of a band or orchestra, and it's not often that we get the opportunity to perform with our peers. Aside from seeing our music support the UCI CRI with over $10,000 donated over the past three years, that camaraderie is one of the most gratifying parts of our events. There are so many leaders waiting to be given the opportunity to step out, and we hope to tap into that community in order to make a real impact on the bigger community we support.
