Meet Our Team!
Hey everyone! I'm Cate Le, a senior of the HBHS class of 2026, as well as this project's founder and president. As a high school student, pianist, and daughter, I’m just beginning to discover what exactly it is that I stand for and how much joy comes from doing work I believe in. When my mom resumed chemotherapy for ovarian cancer, the only outlet I had to release myself was my piano. Her recent passing finds me where I am today, and I will forever perform and speak in her memory. In a way, starting these benefit recitals was just as much for me as it was for her. Music is the catalyst for my inspiration and my therapist for life, and all I want to do, more than anything else we accomplish, is to give others the chance to have that as well. It's been incredibly rewarding to see just how far SMILE has reached others like me, and I'm so excited in our fourth year as a project and first year as a nonprofit to work with everyone on our team, our partner organizations, and of course our future members!
(Club) Vice President/Jr. President
Hello!! My name is Auva, and though I am a new addition to the SMILE board, I have been a part of the club for three years now. I am here to learn from Cate about how to run the club, how to maintain the connections, and how to run the recitals, ensuring SMILE can continue its purpose when Cate graduates. I am incredibly honored to be added to this mission, and I truly hope to do Cate justice!! Outside of SMILE however, I have been playing piano since elementary school, though travel, sports, and school have occasionally interfered with my lessons. Though it used to feel like a chore, I genuinely appreciate music as a form of emotional expression, temporary release, and community building. SMILE has given me the chance to connect with others with the same passions and wholesome cause and I could not be more grateful.
(Club) Vice President
Hi! I'm Kendall Pham, a senior of class 2026 and have been vice president of the SMILE club for three years now. I'm here to help and make sure that everything runs smoothly, so everyone can focus on supporting their cause. I'm not a professional pianist, but I use piano as an escape from the real world, and just music in general. As someone who has always loved making others smile, I can't wait to spend our efforts to see it happen. I have always been surrounded by people who support me through tough times by cheering me up and I've always wanted to give back to my community the same way they have helped me. Music is the foolproof way to express emotions untouched by words and I'd love to hear them all this year!
(Club) Secretary
Hi everyone! I’m Haley, the secretary of SMILE Musicians' Club. I have been a part of the club for 3 years and am currently a junior. In my free time, you can always find me singing and dancing to some new trend or musical, and I am thrilled to share this passion in the club! Hope to see you making music with us soon!
(Club) Treasurer
Hi! I'm Emmy, a part of the class of 2026 and this is my 3rd year as the treasurer for the SMILE club. I've been doing piano for the past 11 years and have obtained my Certificate of Merit Advanced Level. I've been in APA Orchestra for the past 3 years also, playing mainly individual, classical pieces. I love SMILE for the opportunity it presents musicians with getting to be in a larger community for an art that is mainly individual. Besides playing piano, I also love baking, dancing, shopping, and going to concerts. I can't wait to meet you all!
(Club) Marketer
Hi! I’m Allison. I’m at senior at HBHS and your Marketer. I grew up surrounded by various types music ranging from family karaoke nights to piano concerts and I have taken piano lessons most of my life. While I don’t do piano regularly anymore, I still love to play in my free time and I'm so grateful to be a part of this club and be able to make a difference.
(Club) Promotional Art Director
Hello there! I am thrilled to be included as the Promotional Art Director in this wonderful journey! I have seen firsthand the immense passion and dedication that has been put behind this club and project, and being apart of this team means the world. I can't wait to share my love for the visual arts towards a cause that will help others fight their battles. I greatly anticipate the many artistic adventures to come, and I look forward to meeting you all very soon!
Photographer
What’s up! I’m Josh Lieu and I’m part of the class of 2026. I’m so hyped to be helping out with SMILE by catching moments of greatness on my cameras. I’ve had a passion for music ever since I taught myself piano at age 8. Ever since then I’ve gained a passion for music and my fellow musicians. Aside from music, I love camping, hiking, and shooting film. I’m so glad I get to be apart of SMILE to collaborate with other musicians and support a good cause!
