Stephanie Brown, the artist behind SMB Painting Creations, creates nature-inspired mixed-media work exploring healing, shifting perspective, and the layered experience of perception through light and color.

Working primarily with UV-reactive and blacklight-responsive acrylic painting, Brown builds each piece through intentional layers of realism, color, and stylized interpretation. What appears one way in daylight can transform under UV light, revealing hidden imagery, color, and dimension that invite the viewer to look again.

These visual layers reflect a deeper interest in the ways we experience and process the world—through observation, memory, regulation, connection, and recovery. Natural subjects including flora, insects, wildlife, and quiet ecological moments become points of focus, emphasizing presence, movement, interdependence, and the emotional weight held within seemingly small moments.

The resulting works exist between realism and surreal interpretation, familiar and unexpected. Under changing light, details that may remain quiet or unseen in daylight become luminous and immersive, creating a physical shift in perception that mirrors the internal shifts explored throughout the work.

Through both studio exploration and lived experience, Brown’s practice continues to evolve around the idea that there is often more to see than what first appears. Each piece offers an invitation to pause, look closer, and experience the familiar from another perspective.
