Welcome to the regional meeting of the Society for the Study of Molecular Evolution in South America in Montevideo, Uruguay. We have an exciting program, with presentations from a diverse set of speakers from the region plus guests from Ireland, Spain and the US, and ample opportunities to interact with colleagues, explore shared interests and hopefully build new collaborations. The meeting is split between the Institut Pasteur, and the School of Engineering and the School of Sciences from the Universidad de la República from Uruguay. The hotel for the meeting is very close to ‘La Rambla’, the avenue that runs along the coastline. You should definitely take a stroll there. The program includes two socials: the Welcome Social and the Closing Social, and leaves room for you to make new connections with fellow scientists and enjoy what Montevideo has to offer. We hope you enjoy this opportunity to learn about the science done in the region and enjoy our city!
