At SmartPrepping, this student-led project aims to impact low-income communities across the United States by promoting disaster preparedness content families can use to protect themselves from any type of disaster that comes their way. Throughout California, future disasters should not create room for panic, isolation, and unpreparedness that could otherwise be very preventable. People just like you can help initiate change across under-resourced communities that require extra assistance in having access to emergency kits.Â
From the founder of SmartPrepping:
" After experiencing the Palisades fire earlier this year, I had noticed my community faced electrical outages and did not have the proper emergency kits available to them in case of evacuation. Many families, including mine, had no access to electricity for 3+ days in a row. In turn, we had little-to-no communication with other family and peers. Due to no electricity, our family had to additionally throw out produce well over $100, and that was when I realized my community needed better informational awareness about how to prepare for future disasters. To avoid such a panic-ridden week and uncertainty when disaster strikes, I hope to create a platform where people are not afraid to share their stories and can learn life-saving tips if in case they encounter a disaster one day in the future."
