The main innovation is the Vehicle to Everything, or the V2X for short. It includes two parts, which are the vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and the vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I).
Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V)
- Allows cars on a wireless network to communicate with each other (inter-vehicle communication)
- Increase traffic safety
Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I)
- Allows traffic lights, road signs, and security cameras to talk to each other, to cars on the road and straight back to a centralized government agency
- Used in improving the Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) System
- Calculate prices for congestion charge
Other smart technology used in Singapore includes:
Smart Cameras
- Located at crossings
- Can tell cars that pedestrians are ahead
- Traffic lights and road signs will be able to self regulate the flow of traffic around a city
- Cars with know of traffic diversions before encountering them
- Smart camera feedback can identify cars, busses, and pedestrians
SingPass
- Digital identification system that works with banks to automatically fill out forms
- In the future, it will be used to automatically bill ERP road users, and it is starting to securely store medical information so doctors can easily access it
