Do I have to be a SLU student to participate in the volunteering with Hopeful Horizons?
Currently, our volunteers are strictly Saint Louis University students. Hopfully someday we will be able to expand this organization into the St. Louis community and more individuals will be welcome to join in our mission.

Who is behind Hopeful Horizons?
Hopeful Horizons was created by an undergraduate student with a passion for helping children in foster care. The founder, Akash Anbu, found a team of other undergraduate students who shared a similar desire. Working together and with our faculty advisor, Emily Komos, we have successfully built this organization. To learn more about our current team, visit our team page.
Where should I meet on volunteer days?
If it is your assigned day to volunteer, the driver will instruct you as to where they will be picking up other volunteers that day. In order to stay updated on pickup spots, timing, and site updates, the GroupMe will be used.
Where should I go for Connections or any other upcoming event?
Our events are held in many different locations based on availability. We will post announcements for the event locations on our Instagram, as well as in our GroupMe. You can find the links to our email, instagram, and GroupMe on our connect page.
Do I have to have experience working with children in foster care in order to volunteer?
Absolutely not! Hopeful Horizons is open to any individual who has a passion to carry out our mission with us. Every volunteer, with experience or not, receives an on-boarding training before you are eligable to begin volunteering at the site. Everyone is welcome to join.
