Welcome to our project website on Second Life and the Holocaust. Second life is a virtual 3D world that allows users to explore islands that focus on many topics. The purpose of this project is to analyze the potential of Second life in the context of education and training. The island within Second Life that this project is based on is the U.S. Holocaust Museum. This museum focuses on the events of Kristallnacht or "The Night of Broken Glass." In this project, we will guide you on a field trip and expose you to the educational opportunities of the island.
Second Life is an online community that allows learners to experience a three-dimensional (3D) virtual learning environment. This platform provides educators and students the ability to connect and communicate in a way that enhances the learner’s ability to understand the feelings of people in situations different from their own. This emphasis is what makes Second Life a pivotal tool in education for distance learning. Using this platform, we will take 8th grade students on a virtual field trip to the United States Holocaust Museum. In this field trip, students will get to experience the artifacts from the museum and learn about this important time in history right from their own desk.
