Congratulations to the 2021 Brain Bee Winner Kate Kaufman !
We are delighted to announce and congratulate Kate Kaufman from Olympus High School as the 2021 winner of the Brain Bee competition! Kate tied for first place and won our tiebreaker round! She is spending her summer in the Shepherd lab determining the involvement of a particular pathway, the ESCRT pathway, in the release of Arc from neurons in extracellular vesicles.

We are delighted to announce and congratulate Malavika Singh from West High as the 2020 winner of the Brain Bee competition! She is developing Virtual Study Sessions for this years event to help our participants familiarize themselves with Neuroscience topics and moderating the Utah Synapses SLACK account where we foster discussion of Neuroscience topics among Utah High School students. Congratulations to 2019 Brain Bee Winner, Ziyu Wang!
We are delighted to announce and congratulate Ziyu Wang from Wasatch Academy as the 2019 winner of the Brain Bee competition! She spent her summer doing an internship in the lab of Dr. KC Brennan. His lab uses a combination of imaging and electrophysiology techniques to study cortical spreading depression (CSD), a wave of excitation in the brain thought to be the basis of migraine aura. Congratulations to both Ziyu, Wasatch Academy, and her teacher Janette Newton!
