I have seen a couple of references here on the forum that piston slap might be picked up by the knock sensor and interpreted as preignition knock and cause the ECU to retard the ignition timing. Can anyone shed any more light on this?

I have an 02 outback had the #2/4 pistons replaced for slap . My noise was very bad at all temps . I still have slap but not as bad and no noise when warm. I also had the ecu reflashed for hesitation about 2 months ago. The hesitation is gone but now my car pings under load . Taking it in for some of the 60k service and going to have my TCU replaced for harsh tanny shift and harsh power transfer to rear wheels .I'm going to see if I can have them look into the pinging problem . I have had all work other then regular service done under warranty .

In regards to piston slap, does the 2.5L have cast or forged pistons? Piston slap is is kind of a trait that comes with having forged pistons. You don't usually hear of imports with stock cast pistons slapping.

The knock sensor isnt listening for any old thing. Its purpose os to react before ping is even audible. The sensor, which is a tranducer, is looking for a specific accoustic profile. Piston slap, bearing knock, slap, ro any of the other many noises that can go wrong or are supposed to be in an engine do not have an effect on the transducer. It also a limited capability on how much it can deal with. If the pinging is audible, its most likely out of the range that the computer can adjust for without making it a huge driveability issue. Thats when you should get (if the computer is set up for it) a check engine light.

I gotta argee with Setright. The knock sensor is pretty crude (it's essentially a piezo accoustic-guitar transducer stuck into the engine block). It works OK for most apps, but needs two (one in each cylinder) on a boxer rather than a single, solitary unit mounted on the crankcase - while the cylinders extend WAY out into the ether. The way Subaru does it, it picks up a lot of extraneous noises to the exclusion of spark knock (poor S/N ratio).

After a 13-3 regular season finish and a gut-wrenching loss to the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game, the Packers curiously chose to draft Love, a polarizing prospect from Utah State with boom-or-bust potential. Trading up four sports cost Green Bay its fourth-round pick (No. 136) and deprived Rodgers of another weapon like Michael Pittman or Tee Higgins, top receivers whom were still on the board.

The slap and fold kneading technique, also called French fold, is a method for strengthening bread dough (and, more specifically, the gluten in bread dough) during mixing before the start of bulk fermentation.

First, I don't usually slap and fold until after the autolyse step, if there is one. When mixing, I typically like to break it up into stages (and you'll often see this in my recipes) where I hold back salt1 and some mixing water until later in the mixing process. You can slap and fold for a few minutes after incorporating just the flour, water, and sourdough, then add the salt and withheld water and do another slap and fold until strengthened to the desired amount. Or, you can slap and fold only once before the salt or after everything is incorporated. This is up to you and your preference.

Excessive dough hydration can make the slap and fold process a little messier and sometimes even very difficult. If your dough is highly hydrated, it can help to split mixing up into stages or even do a bassinage type mix, slowly adding water through the mix to avoid a very sloppy dough in the beginning. For instance, hold back some of the mixing water and begin slap and fold without the reserved water. Once the dough builds some strength, add a little more to the dough in the mixing bowl and continue strengthening in a second slap and fold session on the counter.

In the image above, you can see the quick fold over after the slap and stretch. This motion folds the dough into a tight little package, picked up again at the right side with the pincher grip, repeating the process.

Continue each step in this process, over and over, until the dough is sufficiently strengthened for the target number of stretch and folds you intend to do during bulk fermentation. For example, I typically slap and fold until the dough smooths out, stops sticking to the counter as much as the beginning of the process, and generally starts to hold its shape on the counter without any excessively shaggy sections. This would mean I'd still need 1-3 sets of stretch and folds during bulk to finish strengthening the dough for my typical doughs.

On bass guitar, slapping usually refers to a percussive playing technique most commonly used in funk, disco, soul, R&B, jazz, country music, rock, and many other genres. The style sounds much more percussive than regular plucking of notes with the soft part of the plucking hands fingers, and is also usually louder (although on an electric instrument, the volume can be adjusted with the volume knob or through compression), brighter, and more distinct than the sound of a bass guitar played with the usual plucking or pick techniques.

The slap sound comes from the combination of two elements: slapping, which involves striking the string with the side of the bony joint in the middle of the thumb, a harder surface than the pads of the fingers (used in plucked fingering); and intentionally allowing the vibrating string to come into contact with the metal frets, producing a "toney" or buzzing sound that is normally avoided in plucked/fingered bass.

In the slap technique, the bassist replaces the usual plucking motion of the index and middle fingers with "slaps" and "pops". In the slap, the bassist uses the thumb to strike the strings (usually the lower E and A strings) near the base of the bass's neck. In the pop, the bassist will use the index or middle finger of the plucking hand to snap the strings (usually the higher D and G strings) away from the body of the bass, causing them to bounce off the fretboard; this produces a prominent buzzing tone with a sharp attack and more high-frequency vibrations than present in plucked bass.

The bassist can play many notes quickly by rotating the forearm, alternately slapping and popping: during the pop, the hand moves away from the fretboard, "winding up" or getting in position for the next slap. The slap and pop techniques are commonly used with pull-offs and hammer-ons with the fretting (usually left) hand, to further increase the rate at which notes may be played. Ghost notes, or notes played with the string damped, are also commonly played in slap bass to increase the percussive feel of the technique.

Quionones had racked up an impressive 5-0 record in previous slap fighting organizations, but his streak came to an end at the APEX, where the newbie put his power on display with a highlight reel shot.

This technique can get pretty advanced as players like Tommy Emmanuel, Andy McKee and Michael Hedges, among others, have found some ingenious ways to emulate various percussion instruments by hitting their axe in very particular places, but it all starts with the simple strum slap.

"It feels like a slap in the face for a couple of reasons, and I think that the biggest and most important reason is that teaching through the last recession broke a lot of my colleagues," Salt explained. "We're looking at a situation that's going to be worse. We need somebody in the secretary of education's spot who has worked as a classroom teacher on the ground in the building through that last recession."

Victor Wembanyama's security told Britney Spears 'you understand how it is' after the pop star was allegedly slapped while asking for a photograph at a Las Vegas restaurant on Wednesday night.

Spears, 41, is said to have been slapped in the face by one of the teenager's security personnel after approaching the Frenchman. Wembanyama, 19, is in Sin City for Summer League, where he will play for the San Antonio Spurs for the first time since being drafted as the No. 1 overall pick last month.

San Antonio also has scheduled games against the Portland Trail Blazers, the Washington Wizards and the Detroit Pistons. Those first two offer the tantalising prospect of a Vegas rematch with number three overall pick Scoot Henderson and a reunion with former Metropolitans 92 teammate Bilal Coulibaly.

In this acoustic guitar lesson, Marc Seal teaches us common bass-style techniques like slapping and popping to coax some different sounds from your acoustic. Add some plucking and percussive clicking and you are ready to put it all together in a riff that will really improve your fingerstyle technique.

Britney Spears knows what it\\u2019s like to be the subject of fans\\u2019 affection. And when she turned the tables on Wednesday night and approached NBA No. 1 overall draft pick Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs, she claims she was slapped by a team security official.

The thumb slap provides a percussive element to your guitar playing that sees your thumb slap the strings of the guitar on beats 2 and 4. This emulates the sound of a hight hat or snare drum, bringing an undeniable groove to the chords and progressions you play on guitar. John Mayer is one such guitarist who likes to use this technique a lot in his playing.

In this lesson, I will first show you how to work on the thumb slapping guitar technique in isolation so you can get this down first. You will then learn how to integrate the thumb slap into a chord progression with picking and strumming chords on beats 1 and 3, and slapping your thumb of your picking hand down onto the strings of your guitar on beats 2 and 4. The result is a very cool groove that has a very percussive sound to it as you go about strumming and picking chords on your guitar. ff782bc1db
