ASSEMBLY

Assembled SLAB 12's.

To the Left are an assembled pair of SLAB's. Care has been taken to package SLAB components so they arrive at your doorstep in pristine condition

Each SLAB is packaged in it's own Heavy Duty, Double Ply, 270 pound rated cardboard box. Heavy duty Styrofoam corner protectors are utilized to hold the SLAB baffle and driver firmly in place during shipping. SLAB 15's are individually packaged in 20" X 20" X 12" high boxes and SLAB 12's in 16" X 16" X 10" high boxes.

All necessary assembly tools are provided, 7/16" Nut Driver to attach rubber feet to support brackets, PH3 X 150 mm Phillips screwdriver to attach support brackets to the Baffle and PH2 X 100 mm Phillips screwdriver to tighten driver mounting screws.

Each box will be marked with multiple "FRAGILE" stickers clearly indicating which side is UP. Only open the box from the Top Side as indicated. Attempting to open the box from the bottom will destroy the box since the bottom flaps have been glued together for maximum strength.

Once the top of Box #1 is open, remove the two Baffle support legs, two rubber feet with screws for the Baffle, 4' speaker cable pair and assembly tools. Very carefully remove additional packing material taking care not to damage the Driver.

Once all packing material has been removed, the Baffle with Driver attached will be exposed resting flat in the bottom of the box supported very snugly by four heavy duty corner protectors (far left photo).

Be sure to have a flat clean work area such as a Moving Blanket or clean carpeted floor to lay out all the assembly components. When handling the Baffle exercise caution not to grab or touch the Driver's paper cone (it's delicate).

Grab the Baffle by one edge and carefully tilt the Baffle up towards the top of the box until the two corner protectors can be removed (near left photo). Gently lift the Baffle out of the remaining two corner protectors.

The support legs used in this application have been selected due to their sturdy nature. That being said there can be slight dimensional differences that occur during the forming and welding of each support.

As you can see from the next two photos, the Baffle and Brackets are numbered. During Factory assembly, any differences in Bracket dimensions are accounted for when mounting the Brackets to the Baffle so that all four rubber feet will make contact when placed on a flat surface.

Remove the mounting screws from the Baffle using the large Phillips screwdriver provided. Place Bracket #1 on the #1 side of the Baffle. Insert the first Bracket mounting screw into the hole provided. Turn the screw Counter-Clockwise until you feel the screw fall into and engage the screw threads that have formed in the Baffle hole. Now turn the screw Clockwise until Snug. Repeat this process for the remaining mounting screws and Brackets.

CAUTION: Do not use Electric Drills, Impact Wrenches or Cordless Nut Drivers to install bracket screws or to tighten Driver attachment screws. The Baffle is constructed of Baltic Birch material and is very durable. Over-tightening will likely result in shearing off the screw heads.

You have been provided with good quality hand tools, please use them. Attachment screws only need to be good and snug, No Need To Over Do-IT.

Now that the Support Brackets are attached, Install the two Rubber Feet, one on each side of the Baffle. Use the Phillips Head 1/4-20 screw and large Phillips screwdriver. Insert the 1/4-20 screw into the recessed hole in the Rubber Foot. Gently thread the screw into the 1/4-20 insert in the bottom of the Baffle until the screw bottoms out inside the Rubber Foot. Tighten the screw an additional 3/4 to 1 turn and no more. As the screw is tightened the Rubber Foot compresses. Over-tightening will damage the Foot.
