Our Core Values

Core values are deeply held principles that underlie our mission and goals and inform our structures, decisions and actions. The Sister Lake Association affirms:

  • a responsibility to stewardship of our local environment;

  • a commitment to building a supportive, inclusive, diverse and respectful community;

  • a responsibility for open communication, responsiveness and transparency in decision- making;

  • a value of promoting active involvement of Association members in all levels of democratic process that impact our neighborhood;

  • a value of creating opportunities for neighbors to get to know and enjoy one another.

Our Goals

The following goals are established in the SLA by-laws.

The Sister Lakes Association is committed to preserving and strengthening our local neighborhood and its natural features by:

Goal 1: Promoting communication and cooperation among the members of our community:

  • Collecting and distributing information that is relevant to the Sister Lakes community;

  • Facilitating community conversation on topics that affect the Sister Lakes natural features and the well-being of the community;

  • Developing connections and a sense of community among neighbors.

Goal 2: Supporting the well-being of neighborhood residents, including aging in place, by:

  • Developing networks of support that help sustain older residents in their homes;

  • Developing collaborative programs (e.g., snow removal, leaf removal) that benefit all residents, but that may be of unique value to older or disabled residents;

  • Developing connections and collaborations with formal resources aimed at support of residents.

Goal 3: Working with officials, citizens, and organizations to maintain the safety and beauty of our community, and to ensure the availability of public and private community services by:

  • Preserving and protecting the flora and fauna of the area; reducing the present introduction of nutrients, salt, silt, and bacteria into the lakes as much as possible; and supporting regular monitoring to understand the health of the lakes and surrounding ecosystem.

  • Encouraging green environmental community practices in order to safeguard the health and well-being of the residents in our neighborhood, as well as the environmental health of our community;

  • Advocating that any proposed development in the area contributes to the sustainability of the Sister Lakes natural features and the health and vitality of the community;

  • Exploring the opportunities to translate city-wide commitments to resilience, sustainability and equity in a neighborhood context.
