Selene

"OKAY, OKAY, I'll go first!" Selene had already chugged several Mount Olympus Mules and before Eos could get another word in she knew she had to start her story.

"Ugh, but I had a really good one." Helios sighed while taking a bite of baklava.

Eos was visibly upset that her little sister was starting the show but not too jealous because she knew she could save her story (the best one) for last. Helios and Eos leaned in as Selene set the scene.

“Soooooo… I met a boy last night and I think we are in love!” Selene blushed as she took another sip of her drink.

“NO WAY?” Helios and Eos could not have been more shocked and excited for their baby sister.

Selene was smiling so hard she was practically glowing. She was the baby of the family, after all, and loved attention.

“Anyways, I saw a shepherd boy- no a MAN, the other day while I was roaming around the forest. There he was, lying fast asleep, in a cave, absolutely dreamy. The moment I saw him I knew he had to be my true love.”

Selene had always been a naive romantic, but this was almost too much for her siblings to handle.

“You watched him sleep? Gross,” Helios said as he stuck his tongue out and laughed at his sister. “I can’t decide if that’s cute or borderline creepy. Wait. Definitely creepy,” he decided.

Selene rolled her eyes and continued her love story.

“He was a shepherd boy, and had the gentlest face and the softest curls. I wanted to be subtle, so I tried to gently nudge him until he woke up but that didn’t work so I took some rocks and banged them together until the boy woke. He told me his name was Endymion, and that I was the most beautiful girl he had ever laid eyes on.” Selene was quite proud of that last bit.

“Well, obviously he hasn’t seen me,” Eos muttered to herself. Selene, ignoring her jealous sister, continued to talk.

“Endymion and I started to get to know each other and the more he talked the more I fell in love. Not only is he dreamy, beautiful, handsome, sweet, and smart, he is also the son of Zeus!”

“ZEUS?” Eos shrieked. “Okay, NOW I’m listening. Does he happen to have a hot older brother?” Selene had no problem avoiding her sister’s question.

“We spent the whole day together, laughing, wandering around the forest, and telling each other about our dreams. He told me he couldn’t live without me, and I felt the same about him. At that moment, it started pouring outside and lightning struck. Then Zeus appeared, and told me that I was his favorite sky goddess.”

“NOW, you’re lying!” Eos rolled her eyes at her sister’s vague attempt to annoy her.

“Okay, you caught me. I was just seeing if you were still paying attention.” Selene sighed.

Helios yawned and said, “Come on, finish the story! I wanna tell mine.”

“OKAY, fine. But Zeus really did show up!” Selene could tell she was losing her family’s attention, and it was time for the big finish.

“Endymion and I told Zeus how much we were in love, and Zeus struck up a proposition with me. He said that Endymion could live eternally, but only if he remained sleeping forever.”

“There is no way that he agreed to tha-” Helios was interrupted by Selene.

“AND he agreed to that,” Selene said proudly. Her siblings were in such a state of shock their jaws nearly touched the floor.

“This boy, who just met you yesterday, told Zeus he would sleep forever because he was so in love with you?” The room fell silent after Eos spoke. After a solid five seconds, everyone erupted in laughter.

“I have to give you props, girl, you are powerful! I can barely get a man to take me on a date and you get one to practically die for you.” Eos put her arm around her sister and poured herself another glass.

“TECHNICALLY, he didn’t die for me. And, I get to watch his beautiful self sleep every night now, forever!” Selene raised her cup to her siblings.

“Now, a toast! To beautiful humans, and tricking them into stupid things!”

Helios cheered, Eos laughed, and Selene smiled.

Nothing brings the family together like messing with mortals.
