Eos and Selene were still giggling about the shepherd boy when a deep voice interrupted their gossip.
"Anyways, congrats to Selene on her immortal boyfriend or whatever, but I have some shocking news."
Just like both his sisters, Helios loved stealing the spotlight.
"So, you know my sheep and cattle, my golden babies?"
"Yeah, yeah, we've heard of your precious cattle." Eos rolled her eyes.
"Last night, my babies were kidnapped!" A single tear rolled down Helios' cheek. Helios was usually pretty drama-free and literally cared about nothing, but his cattle and sheep were the exception.
"What happened to them? Can I blame Zeus? Should we beat up Zeus for this?" Eos went into full eldest sibling mode- ready to take on whoever hurt her brother.
"Nah, not Zeus. Worse than that." Helios looked truly bummed.
"MORTALS!" Selene and Eos simultaneously grew angry. The only people that could do this much damage to Helios's cattle and his ego had to be humans.
"Yup. As I went to check on the herds, something seemed off. I'm normally greeted by some moos and baaas but it was so silent I knew what had happened before I even saw anything. I ran past the barn and pasture to the edge of the cliff and saw a ship leaving the harbor with all of my babies on it. It was Odysseus and his crew, again. I was so angry I wanted to just use all my power to just smite all the humans there and then."
"You can't smite people. You don't have that power- none of us do," Selene said, correcting her brother.
"Yeah, she's right," Eos chimed in too. "All we can do is like, move the moon and sun with our minds."
"Okay, I'm not saying I actually smote them, but I really, really wanted to. Instead of letting my anger get the best of me like some people, I formulated a plan." Helios glanced at his hotheaded sister after that line, hoping Eos would get angry and prove his point. Instead, she just made a face at him as she ate some cheese off his plate.
"I called my buddy Poseidon- we go way back. He owed me a favor after I saved him from almost marrying that crazy siren. That would have been sticky. Anyways, I asked Poseidon to help me make some waves if you know what I mean." Helios winked.
"Do you mean that he literally made waves?" Eos was unimpressed.
"I mean yes, he literally made waves, but I was referring to the emotional damage he inflicted upon Odysseus. He got a few of his siren friends to sing and lure the sailors off the ship, while his dolphins pushed the boat back towards shore. Odysseus went crazy listening to that dumb siren song, and almost hurled himself off his own boat! It was great."
"So you got your babies- I mean your sheep and cows back?" Selene asked.
"Yeah! Odysseus and his crew are Gods know where - But my babies are back on my island!" Helios had the biggest smile on his face, and who could blame him?
Like all great stories, this one ends with the mortals barely surviving, and the sky siblings thriving.
