For many of the students, this was the first flight of their lifetime. As we backed away from the gate, I could hear the excited chatter from the students. We taxied for a bit, and then we were cleared for takeoff. As we accelerated down the runway and then began our ascent, the laugher and excitement coming from the students made it sound like we were on a rollercoaster instead of an airplane! I turned around to look at the students and the Passengers around them also had smiles on their faces! While we were mid-flight, I got up and announced to everyone on board the significance of the specialty aircraft they were flying on that day, Slam Dunk One. I also recognized the students for their accomplishment, and the whole cabin gave the students a round of applause!

The first of the Warrior series came out in 1974. (Those in the first model year were actually given the Challenger appellation but this was quickly dropped in favor of the Warrior name, to stay consistent with the rest of Piper's Native American-inspired nomenclature.) Warriors carried the PA28-151 designation and racked up 1,898 sales until 1977. That's when the Warrior II (PA28-161) came out. This airplane had 10 more horsepower and was a big hit, with 3,374 sales. The Warrior II advertised a 127-knot cruise speed at 75-percent power (compared to the Warrior's 109 knots). Part of the speed increase was from the more powerful engine; the rest came from improved wheel-fairing aerodynamics. From 1988 to 1990, some Warriors were dubbed Cadets, which were aimed at the trainer market, featured an austere trim package, and could be ordered with either VFR or IFR avionics. This airplane is still in production today, as the Warrior III model.

From its inception, the PA-28 was meant to be an inexpensive airplane that offered benign (safe) flight characteristics and reasonable performance. The stabilator, sometimes described as a flying tail, is one of the Warrior's distinguishing features. The entire horizontal tail pivots as one to act as the elevator. While it gives pilots a lot of pitch control, the stabilator was primarily used because it was considered more economical to build than a conventional stabilizer/elevator.

The tapered portion of the Warrior's wing also incorporates some washout. Stand at the wingtip and sight down the leading edge, and you'll notice that the leading edge twists slightly downward near the tip. This decrease in the angle of incidence means that even when the wing root area has stalled, the outer portion of the wing continues to generate lift and the ailerons remain effective. All of that means the airplane is more controllable in an aerodynamic stall.

The airplane is a four-place, low wing, single engine airplane equipped with fixed tricycle landing gear, having a steerable nose wheel and two main wheels. The basic airframe, except for a tubular steel engine mount, steel landing gear struts, and other miscellaneous parts is of aluminum alloy construction.

The Piper PA-28 Cherokee is a family of two-seat or four-seat light aircraft built by Piper Aircraft and designed for flight training, air taxi and personal use.[2] The PA-28 family of aircraft comprises all-metal, unpressurized, single piston-engined airplanes with low-mounted wings and tricycle landing gear. They have a single door on the right side, which is entered by stepping on the wing.[2][3]

In 1962, Piper added the Cherokee 180 (PA-28-180) powered by a 180-horsepower (134-kW) Lycoming O-360 engine. The extra power made it practical to fly with all four seats filled (depending on passenger weight and fuel loading) and the model remains popular on the used-airplane market.[2] In 1968, the cockpit was modified to replace the "push-pull"-style engine throttle controls with quadrant levers. In addition, a third window was added to each side, giving the fuselage the more modern look seen in most recent production.[14]

PA-28s were built under license in Brazil as the Embraer EMB-711A and EMB-711C Corisco (PA-28R-200), EMB-711B (PA-28R-201), EMB-711T (PA-28RT-201) and EMB-711ST Corisco Turbo (PA-28RT-201T) and the EMB-712 Tupi (PA-28-181). Argentinian production was carried out by Chincul SACAIFI of San Juan, Argentina. Chincul S. A. built 960 airplanes between 1972 and 1995, including the Cherokee Archer, Dakota, Arrow and Turbo Arrow.[20] The PA-28-236 Dakota was also assembled under license by the Maintenance Wing of the Chilean Air Force (which later became known as ENAER). By September 1982, 20 Dakotas had been assembled in Chile.[21]

Reaves' observations are especially relevant for the impressive array of aviation posters in the National Air and Space Museum's 1300+ artifact collection. Quite possibly the largest publicly-held collection of its kind in the United States, the National Air and Space Museum's posters focus primarily on advertising for aviation-related products and activities. Among other areas, the collection includes 19th-century ballooning exhibition posters, early 20th-century airplane exhibition and meet posters, and twentieth-century airline advertisements.

Injured, wounded service members, veterans and wounded warriors may contact TSA Cares to request assistance with the security screening process. TSA Cares is a helpline to assist travelers with disabilities and medical conditions. Call TSA Cares 72 hours prior to traveling with questions about screening policies, procedures and what to expect at the security checkpoint at (855) 787-2227.

TSA verifies the status of individuals identifying themselves as a wounded warrior through the appropriate military branch. Following verification, the travel information is provided to the departing/arriving U.S. airports where wounded warriors may experience expedited screening procedures.

Green addressed the media first and, like Thompson has so many times, folded up the box score into a paper airplane and fired it across the room. Thompson followed suit several minutes later when a reporter showed him Green's work.

The Piper Warrior is a member of the Piper Cherokee family of light aircraft designed for air taxi, flight training, and personal use and is built by Piper Aircraft. The Warrior is all-metal, unpressurized, single-engine, piston-powered airplanes with low-mounted wings and tricycle landing gear. The aircraft has a single door on the co-pilot side, which is entered by stepping on the wing. Cruise speed is 108 knots (124 mph, 200 km/h), stall speed is 47 knots (54 mph, 87 km/h), and maximum speed is 123 knots (142 mph, 230 km/h). The aircraft has been popular with private owners and flying clubs.

Variants of the Piper Warrior include the PA-28-151 Piper Warrior model, PA-28-161 Piper Warrior II, and PA-28-161 Piper Warrior III. In 1974, Piper reintroduced the Cherokee 150 renaming it the Cherokee Warrior (PA-28-151) and giving it the Piper Archer's stretched body and a new, semi-tapered wing. The Cherokee Warrior is powered by a Lycoming O-320-E3C engine of 150 horsepower and has a gross weight of 2325 lb (1055 kg). The Warrior was upgraded in 1978 to a 160 horsepower PA-28-161 and its name was changed to the Cherokee Warrior II. The Warrior II is powered by a Lycoming O-320-D3G or O-320-D2A engine of 160 horsepower and has a gross weight of 2325 lb (1055 kg). Models of the Warrior II manufactured after July 1982 incorporate a gross weight increase to 2440 lb. The Warrior III was certified in 1994 and powered by a Lycoming O-320-D3G engine of 160 horsepower.

Every NBA player has to suffer the physical toll of sitting sedentary in an upright airplane seat, but players can also acknowledge the advantage that avoiding a plane ride might give visiting teams on the road. The Kings will have the same luxury when they come to Chase Center.
