Overemphasis on Prosperity
Where preachers say that serving/giving to God will get you rich in this life, and that is the biggest reason to do so.
“Give more in the offering, because God will multiply what you have given! God, we give you our tithe, knowing that you will give ten times, thirty times, hundred times in return of what we have given!”
Exaggerated View of Grace
Where the consequences of our sins and actions are not taken seriously because God’s grace is enough.
“Don’t worry about what you are doing, God’s mercy reaches further than you’ll ever know! We have no choice but to sin sometimes, and God is okay with that”
Antinomianism
Where the Old Testament laws and rules do not matter to us at all. They still matter as the laws and rules are God revealing His holy standards to us
“Why do we look at the Old Testament’s laws? In Christ Jesus there is no law! There is no law in love! There is no point in looking at something that we don’t have to follow”
Deification of Man
Where we place ‘man’ or ourselves as most important, like a God. Where we feel like we do not need to depend on anything.
“As we are now in connection with God, we can become God! Look at John Wesley, he did so much and was so holy he was basically god at this point. Taking his word as gospel is fine”
Challenging the Authority of the Word
Where people, especially Christians, start to say the Bible may not be completely reliable. What we feel/think supersede God’s Word.
“The bible says this ____. But personally, I don’t believe that. Do you know what I think? I think that _______ is more accurate”
“There are other books that are JUST as important as the bible. I don’t have to read the bible to know God fully”
Rejecting Hell
Where Christians start to believe Hell is just a concept made to scare people into believing, but do not think it is real. They cannot believe God will send people to Hell.
“Come on guys, do you really think a loving God will send people to suffer eternally? Hell is not a good concept. I believe that God will do something else”
Universal Reconciliation
Similar to “Rejecting Hell”, Christians believe everyone will be reconciled to God, whether they rejected Him or did not believe in Him in their lifetime. So, there is no need for evangelism.
“I think that in the end, God will save everyone. All roads lead to God’s mercy and grace. Every religion is God taking different forms. When everyone sees God at the end, we will be reunited and accepted into His kingdom, regardless of our beliefs prior”
