Hyojin Jeong

Hello, my name is Younseo and I am a senior in the department of English Language and Literature. I have taken Prof. Nayoun's syntax and psycholinguistics class and fell in love with syntax. Based on my interest in learning different languages, I decided to dig more deeply into linguistics and how it can interact with other fields of study. Throughout this experience, I am looking forward to gain insight of the significant role that linguistics play in the interdisciplinary studies. I am deeply into syntax and psycholinguistics! Happy and thankful to be in this lab :)

I am a third-year PhD student in the department of English Language and Literature at Sungkyunkwan University. My primary research interests are in psycholinguistics, syntax and semantics. I am particularly interested in how dependencies are formed during online sentence processing, as well as evidentiality and modality in Korean. 

I am a Ph.D. student of English Language and Literature Department at Sungkyunkwan University. My research interests are Psycholinguistics and Computational Linguistics, especially Natural Language Processing grounded in Human Language Processing.

With a bright, bubbly personality, I strive to bring a positive energy to the lab. I am specifically interested in Japanese, Korean and English comparative language studies as well as linguistic psychology. 

Hello, my name is Subin Oh and I am majoring in English Language and Literature. In Syntax and Psycholinguistics class, explaining how we process ambiguity caught my interest and made me want to continue further study on linguistics. I’m looking forward to learn a lot from the professor and fellow students!

Hello, I am Hyunho Oh, a junior student in the Department of English language and literature (double majoring in communication). I am very interested in linguistics especially on syntax and psycholinguistics. I think it is a great opportunity to study linguistics with other colleagues. I'll always move forward with passion. 

Hello, I'm Seulgi Lee, a sophomore in the Department of English Language & Literature at Sungkyunkwan University. Thanks to the course called “Structure of English” by Professor Nayoun Kim, I discovered the field “English linguistics” that I can learn pleasantly. The whole process of learning the structure of English, applying it to various examples, and analyzing the linguistic data was very interesting. There aren’t many fields I can fully concentrate on and enjoy learning. So, I think discovering my interest in English linguistics is a very valuable experience. I’m so happy to join this amazing lab and I want to study and learn more about the field of English linguistics as best I can!!!

Hi. My name is Jiyun Baek. Now I'm studying linguistics, especially syntax is my favorite. During this semester, I'm also studying machine translation. I want to fully understand the language acquisition process and language structure. My goal is to combine structural and syntactic knowledge with real life using technology. 

Hello, I am Chaejin Lee, a sophomore in the Department of English Language and Literature at Sungkyunkwan University. After seeing the phenomenon of language disorders such as ‘aphasia’, I began to study linguistics while paying attention to the part of the relationship between the brain and language. Linguistics has come to me attractively because it is located in the middle part of natural science and humanities. Based on this characteristic of linguistics, I want to prove various language phenomena that are taken as the instincts by conducting scientific experiment!!

Hello. My name is SeongHyeon Byeon. I'm majoring in library and information science, and interdisciplinary linguistics in SKKU. I have a very deep interest in comparative-historical linguistics and linguistic typology. I love to wear Adidas, and enjoy drinking monster energy drinks.

After taking Prof.Nayoun's syntax class, I became extremely interested in how the knowledge of language in our mind distinguishes the good expressions from the bad ones. I think there must be some kind of mechanism in our mind that guides people access the "rules" unconsciously, and I am sure syntax can show me the way to the mystery.

Hello, my name is Sejoon Lee and I am a graduate student in the department of TESOL at SungKyunKwan University. I want to teach English to learners of other languages and I am interested in the fundamental reasons behind the way people learn English. After taking Professor Nayoun's syntax and psycholinguistics class, I became really interested by this amazing field and her method of teaching. Would love to learn at the fullest!

Hello! My name is Yeji Kim. I’m studying English Education at SungKyunKwan Graduate School of Education. I’m interested in language acquisition in children, and ever since I took Professor Nayoun’s course in psycholinguistics, I’ve been fascinated by the unknown field of the human mind and how our mind perceives language as we do. I believe it is the beauty of linguistics to serve as a means to look into human cognition. In this lab, I wish to delve into the mystery of the human mind and discover clues to understand it better.

Hello! My name is Dean Hunt, and I'm studying computer science and molecular biology at the University of Texas. I am extremely interested in the parallels between humans and computers, and I think studying language and cognition is very important for improving linguistic technology. I've also always been fascinated by the process of language acquisition in children. I'm really excited to research under Prof. Kim, and very thankful to have this opportunity!

Hello, my name is Josef Hisanawi. I study physics and astronomy at my home university, The University of Oslo. I am very interested in the mind and I find that studying language can be used as a window into our psychology and what makes our minds the way they are. I was inspired primarily by Steven Pinker whose passion for the subject was contagious even for a physics students such as myself. I'm very excited to participate in the lab and make some progress under the guidance of Prof. Nayoun.

Greetings. I am Taejin Lee, and I am double majoring in Biology and English at Sungkyunkwan University. I like to think that everything has a reason to be the way it is, by the principle of cause and effect. It is my interest to learn how things work and to explain their behavior by using broader framework, connecting every detail to the big picture. I would say that we should integrate the knowledge of molecular, evolutionary characteristics of human beings to the knowledge of psychological, behavioral features of them to understand human as a whole. If I get to choose the toolkit for probing human psyche and behavior, I would go for Literature and Language since they are the phenomenological embodiment of human mind, and that's one of the reasons why I am studying my second major, English Language and Literature. I am glad to get a chance to participate in this lab, and hoping to contribute to the lab with my point of view and to learn many valuable lessons under Prof. Kim. Cheers!
