SkillSwap is designed to empower teens with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to express themselves by teaching a skill, hobby, or creative interest through short videos. These videos are shared online through our YouTube channel, called SkillSwap.
It's an award that requires over 80 hours of work on a project to improve an issue in a Girl Scout's community. Key features of a Gold Award project include identifying a need in a community, creating a solution that addresses the root cause of the issue, and ensuring sustainability beyond the project's involvement. As a Gold Award Girl Scout project (80+ hours of service), SkillSwap aims to empower teens with ASD through teaching and community.
This project aims to decrease levels of anxiety and depression in teenagers with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) by increasing their self-esteem levels. Science Direct reports that adolescents with ASD exhibit far higher rates of mental health challenges and self-esteem issues than their peers. This program's goal is to raise self-esteem levels in teenagers with ASD who participate in this program by providing them a venue to recognize their strengths and build their mastery.
