SketchLab started as an idea I had while I was finishing college at Oakland University. I’ve always had a passion for both art and technology, and I wanted to find a way to bring those two interests together.
During my senior year, I decided to build that idea myself. For over a year, I worked on SketchLab almost every day—learning, coding, designing, testing, and constantly improving the app. What started as an idea eventually became a real app available on the App Store.
SketchLab is designed to make learning how to draw more approachable. Simply choose an image from your camera roll, and SketchLab breaks it down into step-by-step drawing instructions, helping you understand how to recreate the image one step at a time.
I built SketchLab completely on my own as a first-time developer, while also finishing my business degree. There was a lot I had to learn along the way, but that challenge was part of what made building it so rewarding.
Today, SketchLab is the result of more than a year of work, experimentation, and a genuine passion for both coding and art.
My goal is simple: make drawing feel less intimidating and give anyone the tools to learn how to draw the things they want to create.
Thank you for checking out SketchLab, and I hope you enjoy using it as much as I enjoyed building it.
