How do I start today's drawing?
Open the app and tap Draw today. You'll see a small idea at the top. Use it or draw anything. Tap β when you're done to save it to your diary.
Do I need to save?
No. Your drawing saves automatically as you draw and whenever you leave the app, even if it isn't finished.
Where are the tools?
All tools are in the column on the right side of the screen. Tap a tool to use it, and tap it again to change its size and colour. The π¨ button hides or shows the whole toolbar so you get the full page.
Can I draw with my finger?
Yes. Fingers and Apple Pencil both work. To use only Apple Pencil, turn off Draw with finger in Settings β Drawing.
How do I zoom or move the page?
Use two fingers to pinch-zoom and to scroll.
How does Fill work?
Choose Fill (the drop icon), pick a colour and tap inside an area. Tapping the empty paper colours the whole background. If an outline has a small gap, turn on Auto-connect and Fill will treat almost-closed shapes as closed.
What is Auto-connect?
When it's on, a line that ends close to another line joins it automatically, so shapes close neatly and fill cleanly. It's off by default. Turn it on in Settings β Drawing, or in any tool's options.
How do I move, resize or turn part of my drawing?
Tap Select (the lasso icon) and draw a loop around what you want. Then:
drag inside the box to move it
drag a corner to resize it
drag the round knob to turn it
use the bottom bar to Copy, Flip or Delete
Tap the paper to finish.
How do I undo?
Tap βΆ in the toolbar, or tap the screen with two fingers. Tap with three fingers to redo.
How do I change the paper?
Tap β― in the toolbar and choose Plain or Grid, or open Paper colour.
How do I add the widget?
Long-press your home screen, tap Edit (or +), search for Sketch Diary, and choose the small or medium size. There are also streak widgets for the lock screen.
What does the widget show?
Your latest drawing, finished or not, plus your streak.
Tap Continue (or the drawing) to keep working on it.
Tap Draw today to start today's page.
I don't want my drawing on the home screen.
Turn off Settings β Widget β Show last drawing. The widget will show only your streak.
The widget shows 0 or an old drawing.
Open the app once. The widget refreshes when you finish or leave a drawing. Widgets can take a few minutes to update.
How does the streak work?
Draw at least once a day to keep your streak going. Your streak stays safe until the end of the next day, so if you missed yesterday, drawing today keeps it alive.
How do I set a daily reminder?
Go to Settings β Reminder and choose a time. If you don't get reminders, check that notifications for Sketch Diary are allowed in iOS Settings β Notifications.
How do I mark a favourite, rename or copy a sketch?
Long-press a sketch on the home screen for Favourite, Rename, Duplicate / Redraw today and Delete.
How do I delete old sketches?
One sketch: long-press it and choose Delete.
Several from one day: tap the day, tap Select, tick the sketches and tap Delete.
Older sketches in bulk: go to Settings β Storage β Delete old sketches and choose older than 1 week, 1 month or 3 months. Favourites are always kept.
Deleted sketches can't be recovered.
Are my drawings backed up?
Sketch Diary keeps everything on your iPhone and doesn't upload anything. Your iPhone's own iCloud or computer backup may include the app's data. Please keep your iPhone backed up so you don't lose your diary.
If I delete the app, are my drawings gone?
Yes. Deleting the app deletes all its drawings from your iPhone.
How much space does it use?
Very little. A year of daily drawings is usually about 20β100 MB.
